Ronald "Ron" Leslie Johnson

Ronald Leslie Johnson, age 62, of Bloomington, MN passed away April 7th, 2026 at N.C. Little Memorial Hospice. Born to Raymond L. Johnson and lone M. Johnson (née Baker) in Willmar, MN on January 27th, 1964, Ron was the youngest of five siblings. They moved to the Linden Hills neighborhood of Minneapolis, MN before Ron started elementary school. He graduated from Southwest High School, where he met his high school sweetheart and future wife, Ruth Johnson (née Sollid). After graduation, Ron earned his Associates Degree in Automotive Technology from Hennepin Technical College. Ron and Ruth married in 1988 and bought their first house in Edina, where they lived for 33 years and raised their daughter Stacey, with the help of his brother, Bob, and mother, Ione. Ron worked as a machinist at Atom-Ation for many years, then became a part-time custodian at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. Ron later became Head Custodian, and worked faithfully for the church for 17 years. He took great pride in his work there, and often spoke about how it was the most meaningful job he ever had. Due to several chronic health conditions, he retired in 2020. Many people knew Ron as a goofball, always ready with a joke or quip. He was passionate about the Minnesota Vikings and professional wrestling, loved to work on cars, and almost always had '80s music playing. He rarely went to work without a giant bottle of Diet Mt. Dew, and you could hear him coming from a mile away with the mix of coins and keys jingling in his jean pockets. When Stacey was young, he was adamantly not a "dog person" but suspiciously always had a dog snuggling under a blanket with him at home... By the time he had "grandpuppies," he had relented and leaned into his true nature as an animal lover. At the end of his life, he got to spend 6 months in his favorite role as Grandpa, during which sweet Gemma lit up his world. When she was in the room with him, it was as if his pain didn't exist. Ron is survived by his wife Ruth, daughter Stacey (Sam) Wright, and granddaughter Gemma Wright; siblings Rachel (Mike) Jensen, DuWayne (Cheri) Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother and father as well as his brothers Steven Johnson and Robert Johnson. All are welcome to attend a celebration of Ron's life at 11:00am on Friday, April 17th, 2026 with visitation beginning one hour prior and a luncheon to follow at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 4801 France Ave S, Minneapolis, MN, 55410.
