Ronald G. Hunter

Hunter, Ronald G. age 80, of Prior Lake, long-time resident of Minnetonka, passed away on January 4, 2013. Preceded in death and now reunited with son, Michael Hunter; parents, Robert and Isla Hunter; sister, Vila Hunter; and granddaughter, Grace Schulze. Survived by daughters and sons-in- law, Jodie and Terry Wehling of Shorewood, and Paula and Tim Schulze of Shakopee; grandchildren, Hunter Wehling, Lauren, Michael and Ellie (AKA "Sparky" to Grandpa Ron) Schulze; former wife and friend, Geri Gillis; siblings, Joyce Isis, David Hunter, Robert Hunter, Vonnie Wolfenberger (Al), Janice Kimbrell (Jim), Rita Hunter and Darlene Hunter; and long-time friend, Alexis Barham. Ron was born on a dairy farm in Junction City, WI in 1932 where he developed his exceptional work ethic. After graduating from Stevens Point Area High School, he continued his football career and education at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. Ron joined the Marines towards the end of the Korean War. He was stationed in Japan where he acquired his love of Asian culture. Ron married Geraldine Jankowski on 8/10/56 in Stevens Point, WI. They moved to Minnetonka in 1963 where Ron resided for over forty years. An avid sports fan, Ron coached his children in their passions and could often be found cheering on the Vikings, Twins, North Stars and Gophers. Ron never sat in one place too long; he instilled the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle to his children during family tennis games and constant puttering around the house. Ron was a devoted father (Best Dad Ever) who would drop everything if one of his children needed help. Ron's remarkably long and successful career as a banker recently concluded with his retirement last March from US Bank, when his health got the better of him. Ron was known for his neverending sense of humor. Appropriate or not, he kept us all laughing. He loved giving people a hard time and enjoyed watching reactions as he shocked them with his crazy stories. Although Ron was very compassionate and generous with his family, he was extremely frugal and practical when it came to himself. Never one to waste, many treasures were found in his kitchen cupboards, including spices tins purchased in 1947 that he was still using. Ron believed he was part of the circle of life. He believed he will be joining the Heavenly Father in his new life. He didn't want a fuss made when he passed on. At his request, no funeral will be held.
