Ronald Richard Causton

Causton, Ronald R., 88, of Brooklyn Park (formerly of New Brighton). Died peacefully on June 23, 2026. Preceded in death by wife of 60 years, Joanne, parents, Sheldon and June Causton, and brother, David Causton. Survived by children, Mindy (Steve) Lee, Kathy, Paul, and Amy Causton; grandchildren, Rebecca (Zack) Lomax, Andrew, and Caroline Lee, Colton Simmer, Shane and Matthew Causton; great-granddaughter, Evelyn Lomax; and many relatives and dear friends. Ron was an amazing athlete. From his early childhood playing baseball with kids 6 years older than him, to his many experiences at the Midway Y, to playing football, basketball, and baseball for Wilson High School, to playing on the 1960 national champion Gopher baseball team, sports were in his blood. He was Big Ten batting champion in 1959, and won a bronze medal in the Pan American Games. He also played fast-pitch softball for many years, as well as handball, badminton, and golf. Ron worked for the St. Paul Public Schools for 34 years, as a social studies teacher and guidance counselor. He coached basketball at St. Paul Murray and St. Paul Highland Park. He coached several other sports as well over the years. He is in the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame and was named as one of the Top 100 Male Athletes of the St. Paul City Conference. In his retirement, Ron got to spend a lot more time playing golf. He worked as a ranger at Keller and Gross golf courses, and later played in leagues at Oneka Ridge. He also was involved in many volunteer activities, including Loaves and Fishes and refugee resettlement. He loved his family and friends, and maintained longtime relationships. In February 2021, he lost his beloved wife, Joanne, and less than a year later had a debilitating stroke. Even with this setback, Ron displayed great courage and a positive attitude. He suffered several health issues, and they finally became too much to overcome. The family is especially grateful to Dr. Charles Horowitz, Dr. Andrew Nottleson, the staff at Syncare, and Tandem Strength and Balance. A celebration of Ron's life will be held at United Church of Christ of New Brighton, 1000 Long Lake Road, New Brighton, MN 55112 at 11 am on August 3, 2026, preceded at 10 am by a visitation with the family and followed by lunch. The family welcomes any personal remembrances that you would like to share. Memorials to Children's Shelter of Cebu or a youth sports organization preferred.
