Ronald Joseph 'Ron' Bach

Bach, Ronald Joseph "Ron" passed away on July 11, 2017 at the age of 84 from pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer (he was a non-smoker). Ron was born to Harold and Katherine (Benik) Bach on June 16, 1933 in South Minneapolis. He attended De La Salle High school and the University of Minnesota where he received an accounting degree with a business and finance concentration. Ron married Kay (Chambers) his neighborhood girlfriend in 1955. He joined Deloitte and Touche in 1955, passed the CPA exam on his first try in November 1958. He later was made a partner and retired after 36 years. During his later years at DeLoitte, he formed a group of investors that acquired a number of companies that became quite successful. He made individual Investments in various companies, helping to arrange financing and serving on their Boards of Directors. He continued to be involved with many of the Boards up to the time of his death. Ron also served on the Courage Kenny and it's Foundation Boards, the Southdale YMCA and other community organization boards. During high school and college, Ron played the saxophone in various swing bands. His musical interest with the saxophone was taken up by his youngest daughter and now also by his great granddaughter. Ron was an avid golfer. He was a 47 year member and past president of Hazeltine National Golf Club. He served many years on the board of directors and volunteered at the many professional golf events beginning with the 1970 US Open. Thereafter, he volunteered in every major event hosted by Hazeltine, holding ever increasing significant positions, including serving as General Chairman, along with Kay, at the 1983 US Senior Open. He was on the executive committee of the 1991 US Open and, in later years, in other roles. As recently as the fall of 2016, he volunteered for the PGA Ryder Cup. Ron loved the outdoors and this love of the outdoors transferred to his family also. He was a fisherman, duck and upland game hunter. He went on many Canadian fishing and camping trips with friends and family. As a duck hunter, he enjoyed sitting in the duck blind in the rain, cold and snow and scoffed at the sunny days which he called "bluebird days." We will miss Ron's quiet and quirky sense of humor. Family and friends learned to listen carefully to catch his dry wit and quips about his observations and experiences. Ron was a firm believer in helping family members attain goals and skills in higher education, home ownership, home improvement, personal and financial responsibility. He encouraged these as paths to life success. Ron was #1 fan of his children, grand and great grandchildren's sports and activities. He attended countless games of soccer, hockey, basketball and football. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Kay, his brother, Jim, his sister Dianne and sister-in-law Dorothy Bach. He is survived by his wife and traveling partner of 62 years, Kay. Also his daughters; Loren Bach (Dave Martus), Irons, Michigan, Micah Bach (Jim) Kinder, Minneapolis, Debi (Don) McConnell, Mendota Heights. His grandchildren; Ian Bach-Dowd (Veronica), Jordan Bach, Aidan and Riley McConnell and his two great grandchildren, Jacob and Natalia Bach-Dowd. We will miss his presence greatly. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at the Lakewood Cemetery Memorial Chapel at 3600 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis, MN on Friday, July 21. Visitation at 9:30 a.m. and memorial service at the Lakewood Memorial Chapel at 10 a.m. There will be a memorial luncheon to follow at the Garden Mausoleum Reception Center. A private interment service will be at Lakewood Cemetery. The family would like to thank the N.C. Little Hospice Center and our Hospice Nurse, Annie for their loving care of Ron.
