Robert Pierce Wardin

Beloved husband, son, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, scientist, inventor, entrepreneur and coach passed away on August 12, 2024 at the age of 89, a resident of North Oaks for 49 years. Bob was born in Waterloo, IA on October 15, 1934 to parents Roger and Ruth Wardin. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean and two grandchildren Amanda and Victor. He is survived by his children Diana, J. Robert (Kazumi), Kent (Lori) and Karl (Natalie); grandchildren Christine (Megan), Matthew (Justine), Lydia (Ellen), Caroline (Ryan), Sarah (Vinicius), Kyle (Katie), Evan, Jacqueline, Madalyn, Kollin and Anna; great-grandchildren Jackson, Colette, Finley, Celia, August, Beau. Bob grew up in Cedar Falls, Iowa where his father worked at Iowa State Teachers College and his mother owned The Green Thumb Garden Center. Bob met his wife Jean at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls when she was in her Sophomore year, It was love at first sight, and they were married five months later on Jan 17, 1954. They were married one week short of 68 years. Robert was a lifelong learner and earned an BS in Physics and EE at Iowa State, a Master of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Illinois, was a PhD candidate in Control Sciences at the University of Minnesota and graduated from the Carlson Schools of Management Executive Program. Bob worked on the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Sky Lab and Space Shuttle programs. He founded Programs Inc where they did contract engineering and high frequency electronic prototype development, one of the devices they developed was the first wireless Cardiac Telemetry Monitor for Medtronics. Bob Wardin will be forever remembered for his infectious laugh and the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone he met. Robert had many interests that he enjoyed with his family and friends. He played tennis, skied, sailed, golfed, bowled, enjoyed the Opera, MN Symphony and coached little league football for 10 years. He also hunted ducks, geese, deer, doves and pheasants. He loved to travel with his wife and family and share his experiences from visiting six different continents. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024 from 10:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. at House of Hope Presbyterian Church, 797 Summit Ave., St. Paul, MN. A memorial service will be held on Friday September 6 at 11:00 a.m. at House of Hope Presbyterian Church, 797 Summit Ave., St. Paul, MN. Interment in the Garden and Reception to follow the church service.
