Robert and Lois Scheerer Robert and Lois (Ruhnke) Scheerer, a loving couple who shared 70 years of marriage, passed away peacefully within a few months of each other. Robert, 96, died on February 2, 2024, at his home in Edina, MN. Lois, 94, proceeded him on November 14, 2023, also in Edina, MN, both surrounded by their loving family. Robert was born on June 28, 1927, in Park Rapids, MN, to Rheinhold and Harriet (Wojohn) Scheerer. He graduated from Park Rapids in 1947 and joined the U.S. Army in 1945 during High School and served for 2 years. He then attended the University of Minnesota, where he earned a degree and worked as a successful painting contractor for 40 + years. Lois was born on June 20, 1929, in Park Rapids, MN, to Herbert and Neta (Zimbrick) Ruhnke. She graduated from Park Rapids High School, where she met Robert. They married on Sept. 20th, 1953, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Park Rapids. They moved to Minneapolis. Lois was a devoted homemaker and mother, who enjoyed cooking her famous caramel rolls, sewing, and volunteering at various organizations. Robert and Lois were active members of St. Micheal's Lutheran Church, in Bloomington, MN where they served in various capacities and made many lifelong friends. They loved traveling, cruises, card club, and spending time with their children and grandchildren. They were also avid fans of the MN Twins and Vikings. In their 70 + years together they built and legacy of love, kindness and resilience and were cherished by all who knew them. They are survived by their six children, Daniel Scheerer, John (Lori) Scheerer, Robert Scheerer Jr., Cheryl (Mike) Boe from Denver, Martin (Kimberly) Scheerer and Jeff (Julie) Scheerer; 12 grandchildren Adam, Aaron, Hannah (Jason) Jessie (Nich), Ali, Erica (Christian), Kobi, Bodhe (Allison), Brooke, Bram, Rio (Isaac), and Nolan. They leave behind 8 great grandchildren, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends. They were preceded in death by their parents, Robert's brother William, and Lois' brothers, Robert and Gordon. A joint memorial service to honor their remarkable lives will be held on Wednesday, March 20th at 10 a.m. at St. Micheal's Lutheran Church, 9201 Normandale Bld. Bloomington, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Fort Snelling.
