Bob Norman

Bob Norman, Age 67 of Bloomington, MN, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, in his own home, surrounded by his loving wife, family and close friends. Just two days before his passing, Bob was able to attend his own Celebration of Life - a wish that meant the world to him. On Sunday family, friends, neighbors and coworkers gathered for the Hawaiian-themed party he had insisted on having before he passed, so that he himself could celebrate with the people he loved most. Bob attended NEI and earned an Associate Degree and became an Electronics Technician. Never one to stop learning, he later returned to school and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Minnesota. Bob worked in a variety of roles throughout his career and thanks to his warm personalities, genuine kindness and wonderful sense of humor, many coworkers became lifelong friends. Bob and Bing's love story began in 1993 as pen pals, thanks to a college friend. He returned to the University of Minnesota to study Chinese to better communicate with his fiancé. After exchanging letters for three years, Bob traveled to China in 1995 to meet Bing in person. Their love quickly blossomed! In 1996 Bing moved to the United States, where they were married and began their beautiful life together. Over the next 30 years, they shared countless adventures, traveling throughout the US and around the world. A few years ago, they decided they should become snowbirds. After exploring several destinations, Bob's heart fell in love with Hawaii and together they purchased a condo on the Big Island. Nothing brought Bob and Bing more joy than opening their Hawaii home to family and friends and sharing the beauty of the island with loved ones. Bob never met a stranger, they were friends he had not yet met! He was always the first to introduce himself, making everyone feel welcome. His great sense of humor, quick wit, generous heart and wonderful sense of humor drew people to him wherever he went. He loved bicycling, camping, fishing, hiking, swimming, having BBQ parties and playing card games with friends. Bob enjoyed brewing his own beer using hops that he grew himself. He also made homemade wines, maple syrup and even vinegar. He did love good food; a couple of beers shared with others, but above all he loved telling jokes and stories and making everyone laugh. Bob was proceeded in death by his parents, Vern and Bette, his mother-in-law Suju Li, grandparents and nephew, Johnny. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 30 years, Bing; sister Becky; brother Bill (Mona); sister Barb (Joe); father-in-law Cheng Yi; sister-in-law Bian (Ya Pin); brother-in-law Ce (You Hong); along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and countless dear friends.
