Robert Edwin Coyle

Coyle, Robert Edwin ("Ed") Age 82, of Naples, FL, passed away in Minneapolis, MN on October 19, 2023, from complications of Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinsonism. Ed was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He was an avid runner and reader, and enjoyed traveling, golfing, skiing, and watching sports. Ed worked hard, lived life fully, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Everyone who met Ed enjoyed his quick wit, intellectual conversation, and generosity. He was always available to help a friend or someone in need. Ed was born to Robert and Elinor Coyle in DuBois, Pennsylvania, but grew up in Lapel, Indiana. His high-school buddies became life-long friends. Ed received his B.S in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls while raising a family. Ed has three beautiful daughters from his first marriage - Kathy, Kelly, and Kris. He was a loving father who was always there to support and encourage them in educational endeavors, career paths, and life events. Ed enjoyed a successful career at General Mills in the grain business as a commodities trader, first at the Chicago Board of Trade and then at the Minneapolis Grain Exchange. It was in Minneapolis where he met the love of his life, Barbara Wottreng. Ed and Barb married in 1990 at Ed's favorite vacation spot - South Lake Tahoe. After retiring, Ed could be found watching CNBC, planning his next stock trade, reading a biography or murder mystery, and visiting friends over a Miller Lite at his favorite tiki bar (Harolds) and "saloons" (The News Room and Eli's.) Acting on his passion, Ed loved trading condos too; he and Barb moved 13 times over the course of their 38-year relationship. When not packing and moving, Ed and Barb enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, golfing, and skiing. In 2021 Ed accomplished his goal to visit every state in the United States! Survivors include his wife Barb; daughters Kathleen (Bob) Dabkowski, Kelly (Phil) Shikany, Kristine (Joe) Hammond; grandchildren Lindsey (Parker) Ignotz, Anna (Kyle) Caress, Patrick (Katie) Dabkowski, Ben (Meghan) Dabkowski, Erin (John) Langmyer, Sam Dabkowski, Phillip Shikany, Jacob Dabkowski, Joe Hammond, Katie Hammond, Kara Hammond; (soon to be) seven great-grandchildren; sister Nancy (George) Likens; brother Rich (Lori) Coyle; as well as many sisters- and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at The Waters of Edina and Grace Hospice for their wonderful care of Ed in his final months. Memorials preferred to Lewy Body Dementia Association. A private Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends at a later date.
