Robert "Bob" Stimson

Stimson, Robert Wadsworth "Bob" of Bloomington, Bob was born in Minneapolis September 2, 1942 and died January 12, 2011, after a 6 1/2 year valiant battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). He was admired and respected for his positive upbeat attitude, always putting others at ease with his disease. He graduated from Robbinsdale High School in 1960 and from Macalester College in 1964 with a BA in Economics and English. In 1965 he attended graduate school in business at the University of Minnesota. He served in the Minnesota Air National Guard from 1966 to 1972. He worked as an industrial film producer until, in 1972, he took a management position with a British based electronics manufacturer. Bob was no stranger to England since he had worked at the London Hilton as a part of the Macalester Student Work Abroad Project in the summer of 1963. Following his time in England, he took management positions in Australia, South Africa and Iran. He survived the 1978-79 revolution in Iran and came back to start his own international manufacturer's representative business. After eight years in the exhibition and tradeshow industry, he started Aisle Advertising, Inc., inventing portable display products still used today in the grocery and exhibition markets. He was a musician playing in groups in Minneapolis, London, Sydney and Tehran. The group most note worthy is "Dewey Decimal and the Librarians" originating from Macalester College and whose album can be found today at the Library of Congress. He was an avid skier and cyclist and one of the founding members of the Twin Cities Bicycle Club. He lived in West Bloomington and is survived by his fiancée, Holly Ylinen; brother, Ron Stimson (Sherie); nephew, Ronnie; and niece, Mary Elizabeth. Bob was buried at Lakewood Cemetery next to his parents and grandparents. Bob loved life and expects to love death, assuming there will be an opportunity to throw a party or two on his next journey. A celebration of life service will be held 2 PM, Saturday, January 29 at the Plymouth Congregational Church, 1900 Nicollet Ave., Mpls.
