Robert "Bob" Dierke

Bob was larger than life. The kind of person who could walk into a room and instantly make everyone feel comfortable. He could talk to anybody, laugh with anybody, and somehow make even the most ordinary day feel fun. People loved being around him because whatever Bob was doing suddenly became the place everyone wanted to be. He loved big. His family, his friends, a good meal, a great bourbon, a day on the lake, a round of golf, an old car, and just being together. He was an expert fisherman, a bourbon connoisseur, and believed there was almost no problem that couldn't be talked through over dinner with people you love. Unless, of course, you were driving too slowly in front of him or responsible for putting up those ridiculous traffic delineator sticks he loved to hate. Bob fought cancer with the same determination and intensity that he brought to everything else in life. There was not a clinical trial Bob didn't know about and not a stone left unturned in his search for more time, more answers, and hopefully a cure. He spent countless hours working with the NIH, always believing that even if something did not help him, it might help the person behind him. Only hours before his death, he learned that the work he had done with them had been productive and would directly contribute to helping future patients. That news meant everything to him because of how hard he worked to get there, and that he made it just a little easier for the next person they treat. Bob spent many years working in facility management, but if you asked him, the best job he ever had was being a stay at home dad to his daughters, Erika and Jenna. Nothing made him prouder than those girls. He loved being their dad more than anything in the world. He is survived by his wife Laura, daughters Erika and Jenna, his mother Darlene, brother Mike, nieces and nephews Kaila, Kaden, Ashley, Stephen, Jeremy, Jake, and Nick, along with countless family and friends who are heartbroken by the loss of this truly one of a kind man. The truth is, there will never be another Bob. He made life brighter, louder, funnier, and better for all of us lucky enough to know him. And even now, it is impossible to imagine this world without him in it.
