Richard J. “Dick” Thomas, Excelsior, formerly of Bloomington, passed away on 3/3/19 at the age of 87, surrounded by his loved ones. Preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Dorie (Warren), parents Dan and Regina (Eisele) Thomas, and sister, Barbara Ann Junker. Survived by wife of 21 years, Georgia (Mitchell, Miller), children: Dave (Terri), Linda (Vik Jegers), Rich (Jessica), Mike, and Don (Angie); grandchildren: Tom and Liana (Clay Hickson) Jegers, Dashiell, Griffin and Fletcher Thomas. Also survived by step children: John (Debbie) Miller, Jennifer (Paul) Robey and step-grandchildren: Christopher and Elizabeth Miller, David and Jane Robey; and cousins, nieces and nephew. Dick was born and raised in Bismarck, ND. He attended school at St. Mary’s Grade and High School, served in the U.S. Air Force, and graduated from the NDSU College of Engineering. He started his career with Collins Radio, but soon moved to Bloomington to pursue a career with Control Data Corporation where he held various executive level positions and served on numerous boards. He travelled the globe for both business and pleasure, making many new acquaintances. He was proud of his German heritage and was fascinated by genealogy. He enjoyed gathering with family and friends at Leech Lake. He had a great sense of humor and could find a joke for any occasion. He enjoyed his “Grumpy Old Men” banquets, birthday lunches, and retiree reunions. He set a wonderful example of how to be a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. The family would like to thank Dr. David Homans for his medical talents in keeping Dick active and engaged for 35 years after his first of many heart procedures. They would also like to thank his hospice and care givers. Dad would appreciate any extra effort you made to make the world a better place than when you arrived, much as he did. Memorials preferred to the American Heart Association or Wounded Warriors Project. Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM, Friday, March 8 at Pax Christi Catholic Church, 12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie. Visitation is 5-7PM, Thursday, March 7 at Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel, with a Rosary at 7PM, visitation continues one hour prior at church.
