Richard Branham Weitzel

Richard Branham Weitzel, 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 after a long healthy life. He was diagnosed with Mesothelioma in June of 2024 (cancer resulting from asbestos exposure). In the days and hours leading up to his passing, he was surrounded by his loving family. Richard attended Robbinsdale High School. After high school, Richard enlisted and served in the Navy. Once he was finished serving, he met his wife Marjorie who was his first love in 1967, and they were married 6 months later. They had 56 beautiful and happy years together. Richard had a successful career as an Industrial & Technical Salesman. Richard will be remembered as someone who had an upbeat personality who loved to make people laugh and to make people feel welcome; Everywhere he went he approached people by asking them to shake hands, and then he'd surprise them with his miniature fake hand to brighten their day. He loved spending time with his family, especially his wife, daughter, son -in- law, and granddaughters. They took many fun trips together all over the country and even to Europe. He invested so much time into the people he cared about, such as going to the grandkids special events and activities and being a consistent part of their lives. Some of his favorite past times were exploring National Parks, hiking in the mountains, taking photos of nature and funny candid shots of his family. He had an artistic eye like no other. He also really enjoyed dancing with his wife to Rock "n" Roll classics. They'd tear up the dance floor wherever they went. Health was also very important to him. He would hand out soybeans and energy bars, and share advice about interval training to his customers, friends and family because he truly cared about their health and wellness. Richard had a great love of westerns. We'd be greeted with a "Howdy" and when we'd depart, he'd say "Happy trails to you". Richard is survived by his wife Marjorie, daughter Anne, son- in- law Greg, and granddaughters Alexis (Jake) Evertz, and Alyssa, his sister Kathleen (Todd) Pertl, brother-in-law Robert Miller, and many special nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grandnephews, cousins, and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Margaret Weitzel, his brothers John, Bob, and Brad Weitzel. Though they are heartbroken over his loss and will miss him immensely, his family is grateful for the numerous fun filled, loving memories they have with Richard, and they will hold these memories as they navigate the days and years ahead. They are comforted by the thought of him galloping through the beautiful gates of Heaven. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 1st at Woodridge Church in Medina, MN (763) 230-6300. 10:00 Visitation, 11:00 Service with lunch following. Flowers may be delivered to the church.
