Richard Dale Lockrem

Richard Lockrem died peacefully at home in New Brighton, MN on Friday, August 9th, 2024 at the age of 87 after battling pulmonary fibrosis. Richard is survived by wife Kaye Willner; stepchildren Kathryn (Dave) Jensen of Blaine, Mark (Wendy) Willner of New Brighton, Jennifer Willner (Brendan Bennett) of St. Paul; sister Darlene of Warroad; nephew Kevin of Roosevelt; brother Ted (Norine) of Phoenix; and step grandchildren Andrew Willner, Allison Willner (Michel Doege), Pearl Jensen, Juliana Willner, Neal Jensen. He was preceded in death by wife Michelle. Richard was born on June 7th, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan to Lloyd and Laura Lockrem. He moved to Warroad as a child and grew up on Lake of the Woods where his father worked as a commercial fisherman. He spent much of his childhood fishing alongside his dad, continuing with his love of the sport throughout his adult life. After high school he joined the Army following his desire to see some more of the world outside of northern Minnesota. After serving his country he returned to Minnesota where he worked as a project manager for Unisys until he retired. In 2010 he met Kaye Willner online. Both having found love again they married in 2014 in Las Vegas and settled in together in Kaye's home in New Brighton where they spent countless hours working in their gardens and enjoying glasses of wine together on their deck or patio. Richard felt blessed to have been welcomed into the Willner family and came to love Kaye's children and grandchildren as his own. Richard and Kaye were blessed to have had many opportunities to travel together in their retirement, especially enjoying their many Princess cruises to various locations. Alaska and Hawaii were favorite destinations. Wine tasting became a favorite activity that they shared. They have also been blessed with a tight knit circle of friends who they count more as family than simply friends. They enriched Richard's life more than he could express. Richard's favorite place to be, however, was home in his beautiful yard with Kaye and his two puppy dogs Duggie and Clyde, who were all together at his side as he passed. Visitation with an informal celebration of Richard's life will take place on Friday, August 16th 2024, from 4-6pm at Washburn-McReavy Hillside Chapel & Cemetery, 2610 19th Ave NE Minneapolis, MN 55418.
