Rev. Harold William Otte

Otte, Rev. Dr. Harold William Born: November 7, 1915 in York County, NE, the third child of M.F. William and Ida (Bentzenberg) Otte. He was married on August 19, 1939 to Bernice Ester Schmidt in Young America, MN. This union was blessed with two sons, William and Paul. He was blessed with extraordinary unity of faith, fellowship, and love among his extended family and his in-laws. Education: Concordia High School and junior college (now Concordia University) in Seward, NE, graduating in 1935. B.S. in Music from Mankato State Teachers College, 1947; M.A., University of Minnesota, 1954; D.Ed. from the University of Colorado in Boulder, 1966; colloquy into the Holy Ministry from Concordia Theological Seminary, Springfield, IL, and ordained on June 25, 1972. Service: Taught elementary school in Hastings, NE (1935-1937), Zion Lutheran School, Cologne (Benton), MN (1937-1939); Principal and teacher, Trinity Lutheran School, Janesville, MN (1939-1946); principal and teacher of St. Paul Lutheran School, Fairmont, MN (1946-1951); Taught at Concordia Academy and College (now Concordia University, St. Paul) 1951-1975, serving at times as band and choir director, golf coach, chairman of the Music Department, Academic Dean, and Acting President; Associate Pastor, St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Worthington, MN (1975-1984); Visitation Pastor for St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Columbia Heights, MN and Messiah Lutheran Church, Mounds View, MN. Survivors: wife, Bernice, Waconia, MN; sons, Rev. William (Deanna) Otte, Rochester, MN, and Paul (Barbara) Otte, Hutchinson, MN; grandchildren, Rev. John (Jill) Otte, Blue Earth, MN; Mrs. Rebekah (Chris) Gordon, New Ulm, MN; Mark (Keri) Otte, Ixonia, WI; M Sgt. Matthew (Leah) Otte, Swansboro, NC; Philip Otte, Hutchinson, MN; great-grandchildren, Victor Otte and Isaiah Otte; brothers- and sisters- in-law, Dr. and Mrs. (Erna) Norman Schulz of Minneapolis, Mrs. Martha Possehl, Brooklyn, CT; Roland (Jean) Schmidt, Hope Mills, NC, Rosa Schmidt of Waconia, MN, Lawrence (Dorothy) Wolfgram, St. Paul; many nieces and nephews. Memorials preferred to Concordia University, St. Paul, Music Scholarship Fund. Funeral service Thursday, August 9, 2007, 10:30 AM, St. John's Lutheran Church, 101 SE 2nd Ave., Norwood Young America. Interment Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Cologne, MN.
