Dr. Prithipal Singh

Singh, Dr. Prithipal (Paul) Died peacefully on November 29, 2012 in his North Oaks home surrounded by his family. Born in India in 1930, Dr. Singh was the son of Sardar Daleep Singh and Harbans Kaur. He grew up in India and received his MBBS (MD) from Grant Medical College, Mumbai. Paul's lifelong dream was to practice medicine in the United States, so in 1956, he moved to New York to do his residency in Lincoln Hospital. Dr. Singh lived as an expatriate physician in Saudi Arabia. It was then that he married Gulbash Singh and started their family. Paul and Bash moved back to America in 1968 and he practiced and taught at Mehary Medical College in Nashville, TN. In 1972, the family experienced their first winter when moving to St. Paul to work for Group Health Pediatrics. Minnesota become home for Paul, with strong friendships that became family, and this family was with him at the end. Dr. Singh was known by everyone as kind, gentle, wise, compassionate, and at the same time, the life of the party. He courageously battled for 26 years with Parkinson's Disease and became an example to all with his courage and grace in how to live in illness. His wife, Bash gave us all an inspiration for what true love means as a wife and caregiver to Paul. Dr. Singh's professional life was marked by many achievements and awards, including the prestigious Dr. Maurice Visscher Award, and the University of MN Department of Pediatrics Gold-Headed Cane Award. He ended his career as the head of the Pediatrics department at Health Partners. Dr. Singh is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Gulbash (Bash) Singh, his two beloved children, son Jesse Singh and his wife Linda Singh and daughter Reema and her husband Hari Batnagar, grandchildren Meera, Dhara, Kieran, Shawn, and Henna and siblings Gurmeet Singh of Prior Lake, Virinder Singh, Mohini Dugal, Manjeet Seghal in India. A Memorial Gathering will begin at 10:30 AM Saturday, December 1st at Lakewood Garden Mausoleum with the Funeral to follow at 1 PM-2:30 PM at the Lakewood Memorial Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Avenue South, Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Dr. Singh's name to the Struthers Parkinson's Center, 6701 Country Club Drive Golden Valley, MN 55427, or the Sikh Society of Minnesota, 9000 West Bloomington Freeway, Bloomington, MN 55431. We are thankful to all of the doctors and staff at HealthPartners, the Struthers Center, and his loyal and devoted caregivers who will have our gratitude forever.
