Peter Harold Franz

Dr Peter H Franz of Edina, MN, passed away October 23, 2022 of complications from a stroke. Peter was born in Delft, MN, to Peter and Helena (Friesen) Franz and was the youngest of five children. He graduated from Mountain Lake High School, South Dakota State, and the University of Minnesota, where he received a degree in Veterinary Medicine. Pete played in two state tournaments for the Mt Lake basketball team and played football for the Jack Rabbits. While in college, he married Marion Jungas, Mountain Lake, MN. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in September. His love for Marion was true and steadfast; and he supported Marion's career as a dietitian with typical zeal. As a Veterinarian he practiced in Austin, MN focusing on large animals. An illness forced him to stop practicing and the family relocated to Edina where he worked for International Multifoods, Zinpro, and subsequently started Tech-Mix. Pete developed an electrolyte, Blue Lite® ("Gatorade for pigs/cows"), that was produced and sold with exceptional partners and the company now has sales worldwide. Pete had clarity about who he was and what mattered to him. He had a joke for every occasion, loved a bourbon sweet old-fashioned, and tenaciously followed the grain markets. A sports fanatic; he held season tickets to the Vikings, Gophers, and Timberwolves. He was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years. He always maintained a fondness for Mountain Lake and the farms. His tree farm will serve as a legacy to his grandchildren. He loved living his final years at The Waters where he could socialize to his heart's content. He was grateful to his caregivers in his final weeks. Pete lived a big life and now has gone home. His presence will forever be felt and missed by all those he loved. Peter is preceded in death by siblings, Henry (Estella), Harry (Emma), and Helen Roos (Donald). He is survived by sister Elizabeth (Arlie) Fast, both lifelong friends as well as family. He is survived by wife, Marion; their four children, Tim (Tolu), Tom, Laura, and Lynn Franz (Joseph Krueger); four grandchildren, Brian, Kevin, Nathanael Krueger, and Isaiah; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial service to be held on Tuesday, November 1, at 2 PM at Christ Presbyterian Church - 6901 Normandale Rd, Edina. Visitation one hour prior. Memorials may be given to University of Minnesota's Veterinary Medical Center General Support Fund.
