Peggy Lou Thompson

Peggy Lou Thompson, age 76, entered Heaven's gates on August 5, 2026. She was born on November 25, 1949, in Crookston, MN, to Keith and Gloris (Vennes) Blix. After moving from Devils Lake, ND, to Canby, MN, her family eventually settled in Fergus Falls, MN. While attending Fergus Falls High School, Peggy participated in band and the girls' basketball team. After graduating in 1967, she moved to the St. Paul area to attend Ancker School of Nursing, earning her degree as a Registered Nurse in 1970. While living in Fergus Falls, Peggy met the love of her life, Wayne Thompson. They were married on August 23, 1969. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Dawn and Stephanie, and they eventually put down roots in Coon Rapids, MN. Peggy dedicated over 30 years to caring for others as a Registered Nurse at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, MN. She ultimately specialized in IV therapy, where her skill and leadership led her to become the head of the IV team. Friends and family would continue to seek medical advice from her when they wanted a knowledgeable and compassionate voice. In her spare time, Peggy enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, gardening, decorating her home, and the occasional diamond painting. She was very active and loved being surrounded by family and friends. For several years, she loved bowling with her team in Blaine, MN. When her bowling journey ended, she traded her bowling shoes for golf clubs and discovered a deep passion for the game. Peggy and Wayne purchased a summer home at Carefree Country Club in Big Lake, MN, so they could fully enjoy their love of golf. Here, Peggy cherished time spent with friends and relished hosting her family. Her grandchildren will forever treasure memories of golf cart rides, learning to play golf, and having fun at the pool. Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Thompson, and her parents, Keith and Gloris Blix. She is survived by her daughters, Dawn (Jason) Gulbranson and Stephanie (William) Helser; grandchildren, Hunter (Sarah), Dylan, Mitchell Gulbranson, and Bethany, Brett, Blake Helser; as well as her brothers, Jim (Sarah) Blix and Gerald Blix (Katherine Peterson, longtime partner). A compassionate soul, Peggy faced life with remarkable fortitude. She walked by faith every day, meeting life's challenges with quiet grace and an unshakable trust in God's plan. She is now joyfully reunited in her heavenly home with her husband, Wayne. Peggy will be sorely missed by all whose lives she touched. In her memory, she would simply ask that we all do an act of kindness each day. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 21, from 10:00-11:00 am, followed by a service at 11:00 am at Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel, 1827 Coon Rapids Blvd NW, Coon Rapids, MN. Friends and family are invited to gather for a reception following the service.
