Patti Thompson, age 56, of St. Louis Park, passed away on March 14, 2025. Preceded in death by her father, Royce; survived by her mother, Karla; brother Rodney; and many relatives and friends who loved her. On March 14, 2025, Patti Thompson went home to be with her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, after her almost two-year courageous battle against ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family. Now Patti is experiencing indescribable, unending joy in heaven with Jesus, not because she was a good person, but rather, she was forgiven, by a good and gracious God, through faith in Jesus alone. Patti graduated from St Louis Park High School in 1986, went on to the University of Minnesota and graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. She also graduated from Southwest Minnesota State University in 2020 with a Master of Science degree. She taught Sunday school at St Louis Park Free Church for 18 years in the 4-5-year-old department. She also worked with Cubies and Vacation Bible School at Oak Grove Church for several years. Her teaching career started in Spring Lake Park pre-school in 1990 where she taught for 3 years. She moved to Tudorville in Maple Grove in 1993 where she taught in a private nursery school for one year. From there she moved to Eastern Carver County District 112 Community Education in 1994 where she taught preschool up until present. Patti was the first full-time pre-school teacher hired by Eastern Carver County District 112 Community Education and she had a total of around 15 students. Today there are 10 teachers and 400 students in the program. Patti used beautiful, natural materials to create authentic learning experiences through students exploring their world. This included initiating the first nature pre-school class at the Family Learning Center which is thriving and has a waiting list for the fall school year. Nature pre-school is designed for curious young minds who thrive in discovery-based, hands-on learning environments and enjoy spending extended time outdoors. Children are allowed to explore and discover in a supportive and rich environment, where the curriculum is created around the children's interests. Patti loved teaching, and she loved her students. Patti's kindness, patience, and love shaped so many young hearts leaving an imprint that will last forever. Patti had a unique gift of making every child feel valued, loved, and capable which is truly extraordinary. Her kind words and caring ways have made an impact on others who will be forever grateful. In every child Patti taught, she left behind something beautiful that will continue long after the lessons ended. All the children who have gone through Patti's classroom doors were so blessed to have her as a teacher. Patti's joy in the grace of God, and her love for Jesus, overflowed into love for others in everything she did. In May 2023, Patti was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer. Patti suffered through cancer and the side effects of the chemo treatments over the next almost two years. Through the different chemo treatments, the side effects made it difficult to teach each day. But she loved teaching and loved her students, so she continued teaching. She worked through her cancer and chemo until Feb 24th, 2025, when she decided she could no longer teach. Many commented on her strength, and she was always quick to give credit to God by reminding us it was His strength that kept her going. Outside of teaching, Patti enjoyed nature and long walks at the Westwood Hills Nature Center. She enjoyed traveling and photography. She also enjoyed all types of art including drawing, painting and ceramics. Visitation: 4-7pm Wednesday April 9th at Washburn McReavy Eden Prairie Chapel. 7625 Mitchell Road, Eden Prairie, MN 55344. Memorial Service: 5:30pm Thursday April 10th with visitation beginning at 4:30 pm at Grace Church, 9301 Eden Prairie Road, Eden Prairie. Please enter door #2. A dinner will follow the service. Private family internment at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please donate in Patti's memory to Oak Grove Church in Golden Valley or Samaritan's Purse.
