Patricia Scott

Patricia E. Scott, died April 29, 2023, at age 86. Pat had been a patient in the Mt Olivet Memory Care Unit in Minneapolis for 7 months following a fall at home resulting in a broken hip requiring surgery. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease several years ago but was able to stay at home until her fall. Pat is survived by her husband of 62 years, Tom, three children, Catherine, Robert, and James (Kate), five grandchildren Ian, Hannah, Julia, Ella, and Graeme and a sister, Barbra Eaton (Ed Salners). Pat was born in Lackawanna, NY and moved very soon to Hatboro, PA, a suburb of Philadelphia where she grew up, the middle of three sisters. She graduated from the College of Wooster in Ohio in 1959, and she and Tom were married that September. She worked as a case social worker for Cook County in Chicago while Tom was in graduate school. They moved to Prospect Park in Minneapolis in 1962, and two years later bought a little old house near Lake of the Isles. Houses in that part of town were in less demand and much less expensive 58 years ago. It turned out to be a wonderful neighborhood over the next several years as other young families with lots of energetic and imaginative kids moved in. It was constant kids in action most hours of the day and some of the night. Pat became increasingly involved in school activities and issues over the next several years and ran and was elected to the Minneapolis School Board in 1985, serving for two years as the Chair. By this time, Pat had become more involved in various neighborhood and city-wide issues and in 1991 ran and was elected to the City Council, representing the 7th Ward. She served on the Council until 1998 when she "retired" and was replaced by Lisa Goodman, the current incumbent. Since then, until her health began to fail her, Pat spent her time and energies on her grandchildren, including their sports and music, and on small and large things in the community needing attention. The list is long - the neighborhood involvement program (NIP); the neighborhood/community groups; the major restoration of Lake of the Isles park; Meals on Wheels; starting and organizing the annual 4th of July neighborhood block party; summertime watering of all the outdoor plants around Hennepin Methodist Church; working on the Uptown library re-development Pat traveled extensively in the US and some in Europe and Japan, and the family camped and canoed mostly in the BWCA. And for many years she and Tom were season ticket holders for Gopher Hockey games and regular attendees at the Minnesota Orchestra. For her, the meaning in her life came from her family and from seeing things in her communities that needed attention and setting about fixing them. The Memorial Service will be at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church on May 25, 2023. (511 Groveland Avenue, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55403) Visitation at 10am, Service at 11am, and light lunch following the Service.
