PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF VISITATION LOCATION LISTED BELOW Patricia Louise McCormick (nee Wallace), our beloved Mother, was the only child of Robert Wallace and Stella (Hegman) Wallace. She grew up with many cousins who were more like siblings to her. She also spent much of her summer with her aunts, uncles and cousins who lived in Cannon Falls, MN. She said she learned how to adapt to different situations, customs and expectations as she spent time with different families. Mom had many good memories of her summers in Cannon Falls with her relatives. When Mom was 15 years old, she was working at the Lyric Theater in downtown Minneapolis at the candy counter. It was there she met a guy named Dick McCormick, who was 16 years old and was an usher in the theater. It was love at first sight. They dated a few years and were married on Mom's 19th birthday in February of 1947. They bought their first tiny home in Minnetonka...a one bedroom house with no running water and no indoor toilet. They made lifelong friends in that little neck of the woods and had many fun stories to tell of that time in their life. They had no car and Dad had to walk 2-3 miles to the bus stop to get to work in the city (uphill both ways😉). After a year or two they bought a two bedroom house in the same neighborhood with running water and a bathroom. Five children were born to them during their time in Minnetonka: Candy, Richard (who lived only three months), Debbie, Mary (who was stillborn), and Kevin. After 8 years in Minnetonka, they moved to North Minneapolis to the home they would live in for the next 40 years. Five more children were born in that home: Julie, Anne, Paul, Maria and Michael. Mom was proud (and astonished) that having been an only child, she produced this large brood of kids, and a very large extended family with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a couple of great-great grandkids. Mom was busy with her family but also found time to sell Avon products for a number of years. She was a wonderful salesperson and if she believed in a product she made a lot of sales. She has many beautiful glass pieces she earned from her Avon sales. She later worked at Hearth & Home Fireplace store and learned all about the ins and outs of gas fireplaces for the home. Mom loved music and singing. She instilled a love of music and singing in many of her children. She was in the Ascension choir for many years and would sing the hymns as she was working around the house. It took us awhile to realize she was not singing the melody, but the alto part. She had a beautiful alto voice. She was in the Ascension choir, the Bridget's choir and the choir at Epiphany Church, in the Funeral Schola and was in a group called the "hobby singers" that sang at nursing homes and retirement homes every week for 15 years. She was also a talented actress. She was in many productions at the St. Patrick's Day shows that were put on at Ascension Church in Minneapolis. She had the lead in "Mame" and played Adelaide in "Guys and Dolls". Many of us have great memories of watching and being a part of these productions. Mom loved to play cards: poker, cribbage, pinochle, and 500. We all learned to play these games. She also loved to travel and Mom and Dad would spend six weeks in Las Vegas every year for many years. She taught many of her grandchildren how to play cribbage and also poker. Mom was a lot of fun. She enjoyed life and spending time with others. She was a good judge of character and had strong opinions. She was a great Mom...we knew she was in our corner and we could go to her with anything and she would help us and advise us if we asked, but she never overstepped. Mom loved God, our Dad, her children and their spouses, her grand and great- grandchildren with all her heart. Mom was our biggest cheerleader and champion.
