In Loving Memory of Patricia Susan DeZiel October 12, 1949 - February 1, 2025 It is with full hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, Pat DeZiel, who left us peacefully on February 1, 2025, at the age of 75. Over the past few years, Mom defied breast cancer, bone cancer and congestive heart failure. We were awestruck by her strength and determination as she bounced back so many times that we failed to believe this day would come. Mom was a woman of faith, and an active member of the Trinity Hill Church community in Chanhassen. She will be sincerely missed by all who knew and loved her. Born and raised in St. Cloud, MN to Sophie and Fred Stiller. Pat attended St. Anthony Catholic Elementary & Middle School and graduated from Cathedral High School. Here she made dear friends who she enjoyed visits and chats with for her whole life. Pat graduated from both St. Cloud Beauty College and St. Cloud Business College, where she earned an Associate Degree in Business. She embarked on two successful careers, first as a beautician and later as a Purchasing Agent, working at various manufacturing companies. After launching her children into the world, Pat relocated from St. Cloud to Chanhassen where she enjoyed her Trinity Hill Church community, and she also volunteered for more than twenty years at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Family was the main motivation throughout Pat's life. She was united in marriage to her friend and love, Earl DeZiel, on March 5, 1971, at St. Anthony's in St. Cloud. Pat was a devoted wife to Earl for 10 years, until his untimely death in 1982. And while being a single parent to their two young children was not something that she had planned to do, our mom rose to the occasion and worked tirelessly to keep us fed, clothed and housed. Mom gave us what she could; she worked two jobs, she upcycled and recycled before it was trendy, and she was an early proponent of "green energy solutions" when we had to wear jackets in the house during Minnesota winters because the budget required her to keep it "extra chilly" inside. It took us a long time to appreciate how hard it all must have been, and we are thankful that Mom made so many sacrifices so that we were able to have opportunities to create the wonderful lives that we have today. Being a grandmother to Brooke (21) and Allie Bittner (18), and to Jake (14), Chiara (14) and Greyson DeZiel (11), brought great joy to Grandma Pat's life. They enjoyed sharing their adventures with her, often over video calls, and she introduced them to her hobbies like tending to the garden, sewing, embroidery, and baking. Pat was known for her spunky humor, beautiful hand sewn quilts, excellent gardening skills and delicious home cooking. She lived a full life, complete with the challenges that only God understands. It wasn't easy. Our mom had a strong spirit and a strong will. But she was also able to appreciate how beautiful the world is, and she was a prolific creator in response to the beauty. We feel lucky that she was so purposeful, as we have been left with a legacy of her creations such as quilts, sketches, planters and gardens to remember her by. A celebration of Pat's life will be held in June at the Minnesota Arboretum. Pat is survived by her children, DeLinda (Bruce) Bittner of South Carolina, and Derek (Christina) of Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, and husband, Earl, in 1982. We are so grateful that after 43 years apart, Mom and Dad are reunited. You are both forever in our hearts.
