Pamela Jean Mellema

Pamela Jean (Feigum) Mellema Pamela Jean Mellema died Saturday July 29th, 2023 surrounded by her family after a 5 year battle with Alzheimers. Pam lived a full life, though it was cut too short. Pam was born in Battle Creek Michigan on February 6, 1955 to Harold and Francis Feigum. The Feigum family moved to Minnesota when Pam was 7 months old. Pam graduated from Eden Prairie high school in 1973, with highest honors, and attended Augsburg college where she pursued a degree in elementary education. She graduated Cum Laude. Pam met the love of her life Doug Mellema during Dr. Gisselquist's History class at Augsburg in 1975. Their first date was Neil Simon's "The Sunshine Boys" at the Old Log Theater. Pam and Doug were married on June 10th, 1978 at Grace Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis. Pam and Doug welcome two children, Missy (in 1980) and Adam (in 1983). The family enjoyed many special things together over the years, including Sunday drives to Stillwater or Red Wing. Many family vacations over the years- from Duluth to San Fransisco. Family traditions were a very important part of Pam's life and those memories will be cherished by the family. Like Friday night pizza and a movie (and ridiculous late fees at Blockbuster), visiting Santa at Minneapolis Dayton's and eating at the Oak Grill, and the Chanhassen Dinner theater to celebrate Pam's birthday every year. Pam's professional career that included working at American Family Insurance, teaching piano lessons, working at several fabric stores, substitute teaching, and most importantly "Nanni"-ing her grandkids! Pam was loving and kind. She had a big heart and a soft spot for babies and animals (especially kitties). She was warm and social and could make friends with people while standing in a check out line or eating at one of her usual restaurants. Pam hobbies included sewing and quilting. She made many amazing Halloween costumes over the years, and sewed beautiful clothes for her family. Her quilts won awards at the Dakota County Fair. Pam loved the piano and taught piano lessons for over 25 years. She loved watching her piano students grow over the years. She loved music - attending many concerts at Orchestra Hall over the years. Pam loved celebrating the holidays- especially Christmas! Christmas music was playing year round in her house! She loved getting together with friends and family- she had a large group of friends that meant so much to her. Pam loved her grandchildren~ Lindley, Ryan, Ledger, and Alex. She loved to host "tea parties" for the grandkids, art projects, and scavenger hunts. Her grandkids called her "Nanni" and will miss her dearly. Pam is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Doug. Her children: Adam (Trina) Mellema and Missy (Trevor) Johnson. And her grandchildren: Lindley and Ledger Johnson, and Ryan and Alex Mellema. She is survived by her sister (Linda Blommer), brother and sister in law (Steve and Shirley Mellema), nieces and nephews, and many close friends. She has now joined her beloved parents and grandparents and is no longer suffering from the cruel disease that is Alzheimers. "What the Mind cannot remember, the heart will not forget." Celebration of life will be held at Grace Trinity Church in Minneapolis (1430 West 28th Street, MPLS, MN) on Monday August 7th at 2:00 pm. A visitation will be held prior to the service at 12:30 pm.
