Pamela Marie Beik

Pamela Marie (Woodruff) Beik Pam was born at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, on June 3, 1964. Her birth was planned because her mother didn't drive and worried about going into labor at home. Pam was the fourth of five children. One unique thing about her family is how close in age the siblings were: Edward (Ed) was born in 1961, Jerry in 1962, Julie in 1963, Pam in 1964, and then Lorrie arrived just 11 months and 23 days after Pam. On May 12, 1968, Pam was baptized as a child at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Her Godparents were John Berndt and Carol Berndt. Pam had two boys, David and Issam (whom we call Sam, Sami, or Sammy). David has a daughter, Ava. Sam and his wife Elizabeth (also known as Beth) have a blended family of one daughter, Rayven, and three boys: Rocco, Rykker, and Aston. Pam faced many challenges in her life, including epilepsy, which was diagnosed after Sammy was born. To control her seizures, a small part of her brain was removed, but this caused short-term memory loss. She would often say, "I'm sorry, I can't remember your name." Pam spent her toddler years in Minneapolis until her parents purchased a home in Maple Lake. She lived there until 9th grade. After her parents divorced, and because her mother didn't drive, they relocated to Northeast Minneapolis. Pam attended Edison High School for about two years before becoming a mother to her firstborn, David. She raised her boys primarily in Minneapolis, Columbia Heights, and Fridley. When her boys were no longer with her, she lived more than ten years with her niece Chrissy in New Ulm. She later transitioned to living with Sammy for about five years before deciding she wanted more independence in a group home setting. Pam was diagnosed with liver disease around the summer of 2011, and it progressed as she aged. Last year she was also diagnosed with liver cancer. She underwent a procedure in which radiation beads were inserted into her liver - and she won the battle against the cancer. It would have been a great miracle to say she also won the battle against the liver disease. If you knew Pam, you knew her love of Mountain Dew. In her room hung a plaque with the Scripture Romans 8:28: "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them." Pam had a very kind heart and worried about her family often. She made routine calls just to make sure everyone was okay. One of her famous phrases was, "Take it easy and take care of yourself." Pam lived at an assisted living facility, and it didn't take long for the staff and residents to warmly embrace her. The head nurse said they see many departures, but Pam's was going to really hurt. We cannot thank Suite Living in Fridley enough for all they did to make her stay inviting and comfortable - truly like being at home. To understand death, it seems you must understand the gift of life. The Bible says there are three things that will endure: faith, hope, and love - and the greatest of these is love (1 Corinthians 13:13). It is comforting to know Pam had a strong belief and faith in Jesus. She would often say, "God knows I love Him with my heart, mind, and soul." Pam lived obediently to the words found in Matthew 22:37, Mark 12:30, and Luke 10:27. As Pam was preparing to transition, we read to her Psalm 23 and the Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13). We talked about how we are to be in the world but not of the world (John 17:14-16). We also talked about how Jesus went before us to prepare a place (John 14:1-4), and that only He knows when each of us is brought home. Pam was not afraid to leave. She knew exactly where she was going. She handled her final days with grace and kindness, always saying, "Thank you," and "Sorry to bother you." Even in pain, she didn't complain or feel sorry for herself - she simply asked for pain medicine. Watching her navigate those days was deeply inspiring. On her final day, her room was bright with sunlight pouring in. It felt like a reflection of Ecclesiastes 3:1-8: "For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven." A time to be born and a time to die A time to plant and a time to harvest A time to kill and a time to heal A time to tear down and a time to build up A time to cry and a time to laugh A time to grieve and a time to dance A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones A time to embrace and a time to turn away A time to search and a time to quit searching A time to keep and a time to throw away A time to tear and a time to mend A time to be quiet and a time to speak A time to love and a time to hate A time for war and a time for peace Pam is preceded in death by her father, Michael Dean Woodruff; her mother, Leona Elaine Stacy; her half-brother, David Lee Cromwell; her younger sister, Lorrie Cabrera; and her brother-in-law, Ray Cabrera. She is survived by sons: David Woodruff, Issam Beik (Sam) and wife Elizabeth (Beth). Grandchildren: Ava, Rayven, Rocco, Rykker, Aston, special mention - Kaydence and Allana. Siblings Ed Woodruff and his wife, Jeanine; Jerry Woodruff and his wife, Pam; Julie Ryan and her husband, Bob. Also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, including Chrissy who lovingly cared for Pam for more than ten years and numerous cousins.
