Nicholas Lee Van Geest

Nicholas Lee Van Geest, age 43, came into this world on December 6th, 1980 (St. Nicholas' Day in fact) as the first born and only son to Randall Dale Van Geest and Kristen Lee Bjorklund as well as the very first grandchild on both sides of the family. Despite a difficult childhood, "first" is something Nick worked to achieve in everything he did. Whether it was academics, sports, speech, theater, gaming, or music, there wasn't anything that Nick couldn't excel at when he put his mind and heart into it. Nick had an outgoing and charismatic personality that lit up any room he entered and his bright smile, quick wit, and contagious laughter was obvious to everyone who knew him. He cared deeply, loved being the center of attention, and could befriend anyone. Nick thoroughly enjoyed cheering on his MN sports teams, watching wrestling, playing games with friends and family, listening to a wide range of music, going to various fairs (especially the state fair!), and he was a movie fanatic. In 2000, Nick graduated from Rush City High School and pursued a broadcasting degree for his first and only year of college. Throughout his life, Nick worked a variety of jobs that he was proud of and consistently looked to be a bright spot of encouragement in the lives of many others. He always desired to be a hard worker as well as to have a family of his own and in 2003, Nick met Rhonda Vesledahl, the love of his life, and 5 years later they welcomed their only child into the world. Hannah Noelle Van Geest was born on January 5th, 2008 and she was her father's pride and joy. Intertwined with all the beautiful moments he enjoyed, Nick struggled throughout his lifetime with a wide variation of health complications and passed away peacefully at his home in the early morning hours of Monday May 13th, 2024. He is missed beyond measure already. Nicholas leaves behind his significant other, Rhonda as well as his daughter Hannah. He is also survived by his father, Randy Van Geest and his only sibling Katherine (Katie Van Geest) Sommerfeld as well as her husband Paul and their son Blake. Nick also leaves behind countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Nick is proceeded in death by his mother, Kristen Bjorklund, as well as both sets of his grandparents, all whom he loved and missed very much. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 24th at 11:00 AM with an hour visitation prior at: Washburn-McReavy, Hillside Chapel, 2610 19th Ave. N.E. Minneapolis, MN 55418.
