Palm, Neil M., M.D. - Of Bloomington Age 81 Formerly of Mendota Heights. Died on May 3, 2003 at Jones Harrison Residence. Survived by wife, Mariellen; children, Scott (Gail), Mpls., Sheila, Eagan, Brian (Jill), Deephaven, Todd, Golden, CO; grandchildren, Dan, Julie, Hayley, Noel; brothers, Dale Palm, Naples, FL, David Lee Palm (Barbara), Fairlawn, OH; many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by parents, Magni and Eleanor Palm; brother, John Robert Palm. Neil married Mariellen Frank, high school sweethearts, on April 20, 1944. He served in WWII as an A-20 Army Air Corps pilot with 50 missions in the Pacific, awarded two Air Medals. Neil graduated from U of MN Medical School in 1940 followed by his surgical residency at the VA Hospital in 1955. He was a Board Certified Surgeon in practice at 339 Lowry Medical Clinic for 28 years and Associate Professor of Surgery for the U of MN. He was Chief of Staff at Miller Hospital and United Hospital, lead physician in the merger of Miller and St. Luke's hospitals to form United Hospital. He completed his medical practice at the VA Hospital as Chief of Outpatient Surgery. Neil was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, President of the MN Academy of Medicine, member of the MMA, board chair St. Paul Surgical Society and board member MN Surgical Society. He also served as U of MN Alumni Board member. He was actively involved in his churches as council member and building chairperson. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, skiing and tennis. A wonderful husband and extraordinary father! Sincere appreciation to Jones Harrison Residence staff for their loving care of Neil. He is remembered and loved for his gracious and caring nature. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be giving to MN Medical Foundation, Jones Harrison Residence Foundation, Augustana Lutheran Church or donor's choice. Memorial Service 2:00pm Thursday at Augustana Lutheran Church, 1400 South Robert Street, West St. Paul. Family interment prior to service at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation 4-8pm Wednesday at Washburn McReavy Edina Chapel, 500 West 50th & Highway 100, Edina.
