Nathaniel Sylvester Hudson

Nat was born on February 9, 1934, in Lancaster, PA, to Samuel and Ida (Trout) Hudson. He and his older sister, Vera, were raised on Shelter Island, NY, where his father's family had lived for many generations. Growing up, he helped his parents with their garden and feeding their chickens and cow. He enjoyed fishing and camping and became an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Shelter Island School K-12 in 1951. Nat served in the U.S. Navy (Naval Air) for 14 years (1953-1967). He flew in Navy planes operating the radar and radio which provided navigation and communication for the flights and was responsible for electronic countermeasures while flying. He developed an interest in aircraft, ships, and military history that lasted throughout his lifetime. He married June Wigchers on December 25, 1964. After his Navy service, they moved to Bloomington, MN, where they raised their seven children. He loved his family and always was willing to help whether it was teaching his kids to ride a bike, volunteering as a Boy Scouts den leader, driving the kids to their various activities, or helping them move to college. He was a devoted husband helping June through 8+ years of cancer treatment until her death in September 2006. While in MN, Nat worked 25+ years at Honeywell/Alliant Tech and another 10 years at Smiths Medical performing various roles related to electronics and metrology. In addition, he often volunteered at church. After his retirement, he shared his amateur radio (KD0ANX) skills by volunteering with SkyWarn and at many local radio club events. During his retirement, Nat met Donna Thompson. They enjoyed traveling to visit family/friends and to Nat's Navy reunions. Nat passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He will be buried at Fort Snelling. Preceded in death by his parents, wife June, and wife Donna. Survived by his seven children, Jean, Samuel (Natalie), Nathaniel (Eman), Daniel, Sharon, Jane, and Carol (Benjamin) Bargabus; five grandchildren, Katherine, Abigail, Gabriella, Sophia, and Katerina; sister, Vera Reiter; nieces Beverly Barry, Linda (Nick) Mystic; great-nephew Bill (Nicole) Barry; and many extended family. A memorial service will be held at 11am on August 31, 2026, at Bloomington Covenant Church, 10150 Xerxes Ave. S., Bloomington, MN, with visitation one hour prior. Private interment at Fort Snelling.
