Nathan James Pickens

Nathan James Pickens, age 50 of New Prague, MN, passed away surrounded by family on May 22, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born on January 10, 1974, in Robbinsdale, MN. Nathan was an alumnus of Robbinsdale Armstrong High School. After graduating, he proudly served in the United States Army Company B 134th Forward Support Battalion (Red Bulls). Following his service, Nathan was a dedicated Journeyman Electrician at J. Becher & Associates, Inc. for 27 years. In the Fall of 2021, he began his Educational Journey at Dunwoody College of Technology. While on furlough due to COVID, Nathan graduated from Dunwoody with High Honors as a member of Phi Theta Kappa with a Project Construction Management Degree. Nathan's love for his college experience led him to his calling as a Dunwoody Instructor. In the spring of 2023, he received the "Emerging Instructor of the Year" award as recognition for his dedication and outstanding service; this is just one representation of how loved Nathan was by his fellow instructors and students. Nathan enjoyed giving back to the community through coaching hockey and lacrosse, serving as the Head of the Hockey Development Committee, building sets for musicals, and serving as a board member for Generations Theatre Company. Above all else, Nathan took great pride in time spent with his family. Nathan married his 8th grade sweetheart, Jennifer, in the Fall of 2000. Together they raised 8 children. In his free time, Nathan shared his love of fishing, gardening, boating, and spending time outdoors with his loved ones. He is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer, and his children: Jacqueline, Kaitlyn, Zachary, Ashlyn, Bennett, Abigail, Austin, and was recently preceded in death by his darling daughter, Brooklyn. Nathan was a cherished son of James (wife Susan) and Victoria (husband Darrell), and a beloved brother to Carrie and Trent.
