Nancy Joanne Ruehling Aug 13, 1942 - April 15, 2024 Nancy (Nystrom) Ruehling, 81, of Shoreview, MN passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Monday, April 15th, 2024, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Nancy was born August 13, 1942, in St. Paul, MN to Axson and Virginia (Willson) Nystrom. She graduated from Murray High School where she showcased her musical talents as a bongo player in the all-girls calypso band and contributed her clarinet skills to the Murray HS Ice Skating Band. Her love story with Roger began when they met on their senior class trip to Chicago, IL, leading to their marriage two years later. In 1965, they moved to Dekalb, IL with their two children, Scott and Sheryl. Nancy embraced her role as a mother, pouring her heart and soul into nurturing and guiding her children. Professionally, Nancy dedicated over 30 years of service as a medical insurance supervisor at the Dekalb Clinic. Nancy cherished moments with her family and friends, finding joy and passion in playing card games, board games, and dominoes. Her family was at the heart of it all. Her grandchildren's activities were a priority, and she made every effort to be present despite the distance. Nancy had a heart for adventure including such things as going to theme parks, riding roller coasters, hot air ballooning, parasailing, and horseback riding. She and Roger thoroughly enjoyed the time they spent with their dear friends Larry and Sue Dowden attending plays, concerts, Drum & Bugle Corp competitions, and numerous trips to Branson, Missouri. They also loved traveling and cruising, especially with her sister, Sue, and brother-in-law, Jim. She treasured gathering with her relatives and family during the holidays, where there was always plenty of food, fun, and laughter. We feel blessed that she was, and always will be, a part of our lives. Her warm and loving spirit will not be forgotten. We will especially miss the laughter that could be heard when Nancy and Sue got together. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Axson and Virginia (Willson) Nystrom and is survived by her loving husband of 62 years Roger Ruehling; son Scott (Chris) Ruehling of Savage, MN; daughter Sheryl (Bill) Sherman of Bloomington, IN; sister Sue (Jim) Erding of Lindstrom, MN; six grandchildren Cindy (Josh) Hughes, Danielle Sherman, Matt (Brad) O'Donnell, Theresa Sherman, Thomas Sherman and Anthony Sherman; eight great-grandchildren Gracie, Nora, Andrew, and Chance Hughes, Mya Stauffer, Anna, Ivan, and Soren Davies. We would like to thank the many care providers from MN Oncology, Allina Home Health Care, Palliative Care, and Hospice Care and the amazing community of Applewood Pointe for their loving care, wisdom, and support. A visitation will be held at 10 AM on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Incarnation Lutheran Church, 4880 Hodgson Road, Shoreview, MN 55126, followed by a funeral service at 11 AM to celebrate the life of Nancy. There will be a luncheon immediately following the service. In-lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (pancan.org) or St. Jude's Children Hospital in memory of Nancy Ruehling.
