Manolis, Nancy Berlyne (Garrison) With "Amazing Grace" playing in the background, Nancy died peacefully at her Hopkins home surrounded by her loving family on Oct. 28, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Harwood Garrison and Dahlia Berlyne Garrison (Johnson) and in 2013, her brother, Harry Harwood Garrison, all of Cincinnati, OH. Nancy is survived by the love of her life, Deane Manolis, MD; her daughter Amy Manolis, MD, and son-in-law Richard Thompson, MD, and their sons Michael and Ryan; her son James and daughter-in-law Emily, and their children Sophia and Jay; her son David and daughter-in-law Belinda, and their children Ana and Peter; her sister Lois (Garrison) Young and husband Timothy Young, and her many cherished family and friends near and far. Nancy was born in 1937 in Cincinnati, OH. After graduating from Western Hills High School in 1955, she attended the University of Cincinnati, where she met her lifelong friends Jan and "Grassy" (Jane). The threesome moved together to Minneapolis in 1958. Soon she met her beloved Deane, and they began their grand adventure of married life in 1961. Their journey together included stints in Orange, CA and Fairbanks, AK. Ultimately they returned to MN, settling in Edina where they raised their three children and lived for 32 years before relocating to Hopkins. Beginning at age 4, Nancy nurtured and maintained deep friendships. Among these were the Cincinnati "Moosekateers" from grade school, her college roomies Jan and Grassy, the California intern wives, the Edina "Trend Trippers," her bridge buddies, and many friends in her Hopkins and church communities. She was confidante to many and surrogate mother to others. Always artistic, in another life Nancy would have been an interior designer. She loved her personal art and craftwork-designing original handbags, "wearable art," and "hangable art" as well. Fascinated by texture, she used mixed media to create expressionistic wall art adorning both her homes. Denying the label "artist," she insisted, "I'm just playing around." Nancy was an avid reader and a master dominoes player, teaching family and friends. She relished her travels with Deane, their winters on Sanibel Island and good times with fellow Islander friends and many visitors. She was a devoted member of Good Samaritan United Methodist Church for over 40 years. She helped initiate Good Sam's involvement in the Appalachian Service Project, sending young people on mission trips to Appalachia; this deeply valued annual event has touched many lives for 37 years. Socially and financially generous, she long-supported the Crossnore School in North Carolina, a residential facility for neglected and abused children. She loved her family with all her heart, especially her six grandchildren. She loved watching and hearing about their varied activities, listening to their stories, and sharing her special hugs. Nancy wished to express her deep gratitude to her Mayo Clinic oncologist Dr. Timothy Hobday and her "Infusion Angels" on Gonda 10 E; to her internist Dr. Carol Sharpe; to Becky and her home RN team; to Susie and her Allina Hospice Care team; and, finally, to her special caregiver Dawn Cole. Celebration of Life: Saturday Nov. 7 at 11:00 AM at Good Samaritan United Methodist Church, 5730 Grove St., Edina. Private interment at Lakewood Cemetery.
