Nancy Dallner

Age 85 of North St. Paul Formerly of Phoenix Anna Josephine Hummel was born December 21, 1932 in Des Moines, Iowa. Known to all as Nancy Jo, she attended public and private schools in the Des Moines area and later attended Grinnell College, where she was named to the Dean's List during her first semester and was awarded the Phi Beta Kappa book award for academic excellence in her freshman year. She left Grinnell after the death of her sister, Susan, and enrolled at Drake University. While at Drake, she met Robert Dallner, and Nancy and Bob were married on June 2, 1955. Nancy and Bob started their family in Des Moines and eventually moved to the Twin Cities area, where Bob pursued his career in the Insurance business and Nancy held various proofreading and temporary office jobs. While raising their four children (Catherine, Susan, Deborah and Michael) in St. Louis Park, Nancy and Bob were fortunate to establish numerous lifelong friendships, many originating on West 22nd Lane, where they enjoyed neighborhood bridge parties and backyard BBQs. After a brief move to Tampa, Florida, the family returned to the Twin Cities, and Nancy went to work for Target Corporation in its early days, managing store technology at their corporate headquarters. She retired from Target when Bob was transferred to the Chicago area, and they lived in Munster, Indiana. Nancy enjoyed golf, and she scored a Hole-In-One at the Scherwood Golf Course in Highland, Indiana on August 31, 1996. When Bob retired in 1998, they moved to Mesa, Arizona. Their children and grandchildren enjoyed frequent visits with Bob and Nancy, including golfing, hiking and exploring the Arizona landmarks. Bob and Nancy returned to Minnesota in 2015, where they resided together at Polar Ridge Senior Living in North St. Paul. Nancy was an avid reader and a great sports fan. She collected rocks everywhere she went and enjoyed agate hunting. She loved to travel and was always looking forward to her next adventure. Nancy had fond memories of her family's trips to the Brainerd Lakes region throughout her childhood. She loved boating and fishing with her parents and sister on Lake Bertha, which she revisited just two summers ago. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, A.J. "Bud" and Anna Hummel, and her sister Susan Marie Hummel. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert D. Dallner, her four children, Catherine Dallner, of St. Paul, MN, Susan (Mark) Crosson, of Ham Lake, Mn, Deborah (Michael Norton) Dallner, of St. Paul, MN, and Michael (Cheryl) Dallner, of Portland, Oregon, and three grandchildren, Colton Gerber, Zakary Dallner and Sage Dallner. Memorial service 5PM Monday, September 10 (gathering begins at 4PM) at HOLCOMB-HENRY-BOOM-PURCELL, 515 Hwy 96 W., Shoreview. Memorials preferred to Heartland Hospice.
