Mitzi Lawrence Fagerstrom

Fagerstrom, Mitzi Lawrence (Miller) age 87, of Edina, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2023. She is preceded in death by her husband, John, and parents, Robert (Bob) and Helen Miller (Lawrence). She is survived by her loving sons, Brad, and Brian; grandson Parker; beloved family members: Joan, Robby, Dawn, River, Janae, and Max; and many close family and friends. She will be laid to rest with John at Lakewood Cemetery. Mitzi was born May 5, 1936, in St. Cloud, Minnesota where she graduated from Tech High School. Mitzi was active in school, participating in plays, glee club, all-state chorus orchestra, and band chorus. Music was her passion throughout life, playing the piano, organ, and clarinet and singing in choir. Mitzi attended Macalester College and the University of Minnesota, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She met John at the University, and they married on June 22, 1957. Following college, Mitzi taught kindergarten at Oak Knoll and Alice Smith Elementary Schools. Teaching was instilled by her parents; Bob was part of Tech's administrative staff and later founder and president of St. Cloud Technical & Community College, and Helen was a teacher. Mitzi taught until Brad was born; Brian was born nine years later. Mitzi was proud to be at home with the boys while supporting the family construction business. As the boys grew older, she became a substitute-teacher and later worked in administrative roles. Mitzi and John remained life-long friends of the KD's and their families. In addition to her love of music, Mitzi valued her friends and philanthropic groups. She belonged to the P.E.O Sisterhood for almost sixty years, The University of Minnesota Women's Club, Bible Study, Bridge Club, and other groups. Prior to John's passing in 2016, Mitzi and John relished time spent with their grandson Parker, who brought immense joy to their lives. In recent years Parker spent time with Grandma, who was proud of her Grandson's accomplishments, including becoming an Eagle Scout and attending college at Winona State, where her mother went to college. Mitzi loved her sons and appreciated their support since John's death, after fifty-eight years of marriage. Mitzi will be dearly missed by Brad, Brian, and the family. A celebration of Mitzi's life is planned for September 15, 2023, at Normandale Lutheran Church of Edina, 6100 Normandale Road, Edina. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with a memorial service at 11:00 am followed by lunch. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery for family will follow lunch. In place of flowers, Memorials to the Normandale Lutheran Church Foundation, the American Cancer Society, or the Alzheimer's Association are preferred.
