Myron Kowaliw, Jr.

It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of Myron Kowaliw Jr., a man whose presence filled every room he entered. At age 61, Myron, of Minneapolis, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 2, 2025. He was a devoted and loving husband to Monica, his rock and partner of nearly 20 years, a fiercely loyal father to his three daughters, and a doting grandpa who knew how to bring the fun. Myron made life brighter for everyone lucky enough to know him. Myron was a lifelong outdoorsman who found true joy in the woods and on the water, whether that was a quiet morning in the deer stand or casting a line at sunset. Nowhere brought him more happiness than the cabin - his sanctuary for over 40 years, lovingly referred to by Monica as his "first wife." It was at the cabin that his best stories were told and the loudest laughs were had. He was also proud to be a son of the American Legion, an affiliation that brought him great pride. Together with Monica, they built strong, lasting friendships in the Legion community. He leaves behind a legacy of belly laughs, bear hugs, loyal friendships, and a family who will miss him more than words can say - but who will carry his spirit (and his jokes) with them always. Though our hearts are heavy, we'll honor him the way he would've wanted: with laughter, love, and a smile - because if there's one thing he'd remind us to do, even now, it's to keep smiling. Myron was preceded in death by his parents, Myron Sr. and Gladys Kowaliw. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 19 years, Monica; daughters, Miranda (Shane Korf) Hogenmiller, Arielle (Zack) Stariha, and Bree Hogenmiller; grandchildren, Brooklyn, Maya, Ava, Madilyn, Aiylah, Roman Myron, Scarlett, and baby girl Korf whom he did not have the opportunity to meet; siblings, Kim (Brad) Schaffer, Lynn (Bill) Ahlstrand, Michael (Terri) Kowaliw, Sue (David) Dumas, and Mark (Kathleen) Kowaliw; 11 nieces and nephews, and many other loving family and friends. A celebration of Myron's life will be held on Friday, April 11, at 2 PM at Leopold's Mississippi Gardens 9500 W River Rd, Minneapolis, MN 55444. In honor of Myron, feel free to wear your best hunting, fishing, or outdoors-inspired clothing - or anything that reminds you of him. Light appetizers will be served after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Myron's honor to causes close to his heart. Contributions can be mailed to the Osseo/Maple Grove American Legion Post 172, checks may be written out to Post 172. Donations may also be made to the Chard Family Youth Outdoor Foundation, which helps teach the next generation about hunting and fishing - reflecting Myron's lifelong love of the outdoors.
