Mildred Laidlaw

Laidlaw, Mildred Viola Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died peacefully of natural causes on December 25th, 3 weeks before her 97th birthday at Friendship Village in Bloomington, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James, her sister, Doris Larson and her granddaughter, Vicki Laidlaw. She is survived by sons, Robert, William (Geri), and Thomas Laidlaw and daughter, Mary Pfrommer; two cousins, Clifford and Glenn Swanson; nine grandchildren, Paula and Ward Laidlaw, Jackie Berry, Jeanne Regan, Jay Laidlaw, Rick, Todd and Chad Pfrommer, and Jill Fisher; and seven great-grandchildren, Jessica, Chelsea and Taylor Regan, Clint and Faith Berry, and Brinley and Karis Fisher. Mildred was born in Austin, Minnesota on January 14, 1911 to Adolph and Hilma Mellquist. Her mother died shortly after birth, and she was raised by her Aunt and Uncle in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. After graduating from Cannon Falls High School in 1928 she attended nursing school at Abbott Hospital, where she graduated in 1932 with an R.N. degree. While employed as a private nurse she met her future husband James (Jay) Laidlaw, and they were married in 1934. After raising her family in Minnesota, she moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1972 and returned to Minnesota in 1995 as a resident of Friendship Village in Bloomington. Mildred was a charter member (and the last survivor ) of a local women's club, the ITYT's. Mildred spent her life helping others and was always very involved in her community. She was active in both Boy Scouting and Girl Scouting and was a member of the Women's Circle at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church. She also enjoyed her volunteer work with Goodwill Industries. Most recently, Mildred was a member of the Knitting Club at Friendship Village and spent many hours knitting prayer shawls. A private interment service will be in the Mausoleum, Chapel Gardens. Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, January 7th in Friendship Hall at Friendship Village located at 8100 Highwood Drive in Bloomington.
