Michael John Wagner

Michael John Wagner, age 67, of Minneapolis, MN, passed away April 4, 2026, from complications of COPD. Born November 19, 1958, Mike was a lovable, big-hearted, and quick-to-laugh father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He is survived by his greatest joy, his son Jesse Wagner; his siblings Jim (Rosie) Wagner, Trish Wagner, Bob (Linda) Wagner, and Linda (Pat) Hughes; his dearest Aunt Mary Kay and Uncle Jim Pauly; cousins Amy and Tim; and his many nephews and nieces, whom he loved so much. Mike was preceded in death by his loving parents, James and Doris Wagner, and his grandparents Henry and Hilda Olmscheid, and George and Helen Wagner. Mike grew up in New Hope, MN, and retired after a long, fulfilling career at Center Point Energy. He was content with the simple things, resourceful, and generous. He had a deep love of the outdoors, and some of his happiest days were spent camping and fishing in northern Minnesota with his son Jesse, brother Bob, nephew Matt, and dear, life-long friends. He recognized the divine beauty in God's creation, often remarking that nature is the undeniable proof there is a God. That same wonder came through in his hobbies of agate collecting and photography. Through his illness, his outlook remained incredibly positive. He was an inspiration in his steadfast faith, grateful attitude, and ability to laugh and look for the bright side of everything, even in his love of Minnesota sports, where he was an optimistic die-hard fan. One of his deepest convictions was that God always provides, and he was quick to reassure those around him of that truth time and again. His good nature, kindness, generosity, and laughter will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to Saint Jude's or ChildFund International. Mike sponsored children through both organizations for decades, and continuing that work in his memory would honor him well. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the care team at North Memorial, especially Kerri Hammer, PA-C, and Dr. Sean P. Stoy and team, whose compassion and skill meant so much to us during this season. Per Mike's wishes, his ashes will be spread at his favorite fishing spots, the quiet places where he was most at peace. A celebration of life will be held Monday, June 22, at Glen Haven Chapel, 5125 West Broadway, Crystal, MN 55429. Visitation begins at 2:00 p.m., with the service following at 3:00 p.m.
