Michael S. Thorpe

Thorpe, Michael Skidmore Age 71, of Minnetonka, MN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving siblings. He is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Dorn Jaffray, and his father, Andrus Skidmore Thorpe. Mike grew up in Wayzata and attended the Blake School, Notre Dame University and Utah State University consecutively. Mike excelled in academics, always achieving the highest grades and honors in both high school and college. His athletic achievements knew no boundaries; he was a star goalie in both soccer and hockey, the latter as an undergraduate at Notre Dame. Mike was a gentle soul who battled a lifelong chronic illness. Throughout his life, he faced insurmountable challenges with grace and resolve, finding solace in daily spiritual readings, a practice evolving from an early association with the practice of meditation. Beginning in his early 20's and continuing for decades, Mike was a dedicated proponent of transcendental meditation (TM), sharing his beliefs and teachings with scores of diverse groups. As a result of his unwavering commitment to bringing the practice of wellness to the community, he eventually achieved an honorable status within the international community. Mike expressed his own lovable brand of laughter. His chuckle was accompanied by an ever-present twinkle in his eye, one woven into the gentle approach he made with those around him. With his charming squinty-eyed smile and good looks, Mike always had a girlfriend by his side. Mike is survived by his siblings, Linda Thorpe Comstock, Tim (Diane) Thorpe, Laura Thorpe, Lucy Thorpe McKee, and Daniel (Karen) Thorpe; and nephews and nieces, Scott Comstock, Kelsey Comstock, Molly Thorpe, Megan Thorpe, Tommy Thorpe, Bjorn Bergerson, Sage Bergerson, Lilly McKee, Bridget McKee, Danny Thorpe and Lexi Thorpe. Special thanks to the staff at his recent residences, Divine House and Epiphany Homes, and to the hospice staff at Park Nicollet.
