Michael John Peterson

Peterson, Rev Michael John February 20, 1969 - January 31, 2008 38 years of age, went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on January 31, 2008. Mike was born in Fridley, and was a life-long resident of this community. He attended Fridley High School (class of '87) where he ran Cross-Country, and was the captain of the Men's Basketball team and the Men's Tennis team. After high school, one of Mike's favorite places in the world was the Moore Lake Lifetime Fitness Center. He was a "regular" on the basketball courts, and the Center was the focus of his social life. It was here that he met his wife-to-be, Kara Masserano, whom he married on November 6, 1993. Mike was a young man focused on his goals, and willing to make sacrifices toward their achievement. While working a full-time job, he attended North Central University, where he graduated in 1999 with honors and a degree in Pastoral Studies. Still working, he continued his studies at Bethel Seminary in St. Paul, where he graduated in 2005 with a Master of Divinity. Since October of 2005, Mike served on the staff of International Ministerial Fellowship (IMF) in Fridley. Mike served as the Coordinator of Chaplaincy Services (military and civilian). In 2007, he also assumed responsibilities as the English Pastor of the Korean United Methodist Church in New Brighton. Mike's co-workers remember him as a hard-working, humble man with the gift of servant-hood. No job was too menial. He was always flexible, and wanted to help wherever needed. Mike's family and friends will remember him for his gentleness, his kindness, and his desire to serve others in practical ways. He was a loving, faithful husband. He was a caring, playful father, who loved nothing more than to bike with his kids. Mike is survived by his wife Kara; his son Preston (9); his daughter Elliana (4); his daughter Brekka (6 months); his mother Gretchen Bjorklund; his step-father Jim Bjorklund; his step-mother Judy Peterson; his father Lynn Peterson; his brother Adam Peterson; his parents-in-law Frank and Carol Masserano, and many other family members and friends. Visitation will be held on Friday morning, February 8th, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH (61 NE Mississippi Way, Fridley, MN 55432). The funeral will be held at the church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in St. Anthony at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that all memorials be offered as donations to International Ministerial Fellowship (Ph. 763-571-5967), to go to the Peterson Family Fund.
