Michael Dennis King

Michael Dennis King, 85, went to dance with Jesus on September 4, 2025. Born in Faribault, Minnesota on August 10, 1940, to parents William and Alice (Berrigan) King, Michael was the youngest of six. He is preceded by his siblings: Barbara, LaYvonne, John and Martin. Survived by his sister Kathleen "Kay", children: Kristine (Robbin) and Richard (Rhonda), and grandchildren: Sarah, Haley, Kadyn, and Connor. Michael was a proud Army Veteran. He was able to travel overseas and visit many different places. After his time serving, he was a dedicated employee at Cargill and then went on to Purina Mills where he then retired. Michael had bought property in Randall, MN in 1982 where he planned on building his lake home. He worked hard making this land a place where he could eventually retire and share his time there with his family. His son Richard and his nephew Danny helped make his dream come true. This was a place where he shared his time with his children and grandchildren over the years. He taught his kids and grandkids about nature through bird watching, nature hikes, feeding deer and even had the occasional black bear visit to his deck. He enjoyed laying on the deck in the summer watching the stars and meteor showers with his family. He also loved to snow-shoe and would recount his adventures to us. He would take his grandkids fishing from his dock and enjoyed just spending time with them. At the age of 75 he was still splitting wood with an axe and taking care of his land and the wildlife. Eventually he was no longer able to do the upkeep and made the decision to sell his home. He then moved to Sioux Falls, SD to be closer to his younger three grandkids. He was able to spend a lot of time with them. He enjoyed sitting and watching as they played. Michael loved music such as The Doobie Brothers and Van Marrison. One of his favorite hobbies was dancing. He found Silver Sneakers where they have live music and dancing. While attending the dances he met a very close friend. They would have a dance once a week and would play country music. Though it really wasn't his type of music, it was a chance to dance so he enjoyed it. He even went out and bought a pair of cowboy boots. Michael was a religious man and had a great deal of faith in the Lord. He attended Central Church where he worshiped and made new friends His compassion extended beyond immediate family to cousins, nieces, nephews and anyone who needed help. He volunteered weekly at Faith Temple Food Giveaway. He believed in helping others and wanted to make sure neighbors and family were taken care of. Michael enjoyed spending his last several months with friends at Good Samaritan. While moving our fathers' belongings out of his apartment, my brother was approached by neighbors stating that he will be missed. He was always so friendly and had a smile on his face. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 20th. Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. and service will start at 3:30 p.m. at Glen Haven Funeral Chapel, 5125 West Broadway Crystal, MN 55429. A reception will follow the service.
