Maxine Hellen(Gilbertson) Lapierre

Lapierre, Maxine Helen (Gilbertson) Passed away gently on Sept. 24, 2015, at the age of 98 at Sunrise of Edina. Maxine Helen, daughter of Oscar and Emma (Ken-nedy) Gilbertson, was born in Paynes-ville, MN on Oct. 6th, 1916. She was married to Maurice Lapierre, DPM, in 1944, who was lured by her charm, beauty and out-going personality. An adventurous soul, prior to her marriage, she had already graduated from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in 1938, followed by 3 exciting years as one of Northwest Airlines first stewardesses. As a wartime stewardess, Maxine had to have her RN degree before she could be employed by the airlines. She was a warm, funny, wise Mom to four children: Camille Lydon (Eugene) of Sioux City, IA, Renee Bahneman of Bloomington, MN, Katherine Duplessie (Richard) of Eau Claire, WI, and Charles Lapierre of Mpls., MN, 8 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. Never one to be content with idle time, she returned to school after raising her family to pursue a degree in chemical and alcohol dependency. She then took over the position of counselor of chemical and drug dependency at Southdale's Fairview Hospital. This career was then followed by a short stint with Edina Realty as a licensed realtor. Maxine and Maurice enjoyed traveling the world and she excelled at all endeavors she pursued. Summers were spent at their family cabin at Lake Koronis, Paynesville, MN, enjoying the property where she had spent her summers as a young child. Winters were spent on Sanibel Island, FL, and they enjoyed their homes near Lake Harriet and Loring Green East of Mpls. She was active in parishes and organizations: Christ the King Catholic Church, St. Olaf's Catholic Church and the Women's Club of Mpls. She was a "spirited" resident of several caring assisted living residences and although her caregivers are too numerous to mention.you know who you are. Thank you, thank you! Thank you to Rosewood Estate of Highland Park, St. Paul, The Commons on Marice in Eagan, and for the past 8 years, Sunrise of Edina. She is the last member of her immediate family to pass on. She was preceded in death by her husband Maurice in 1989, her parents, sisters (Margaret Mingo, Mary Lou Giesen), brothers (Donald and Roger Gilbertson) and her beloved great grandchild, Annie Bahneman.
