Formerly of Roseville, St. Cloud, Arden Hills, MN and Winter Haven, FL seasonally. Physicist, teacher, inventor, engineer, and entrepreneur. Grew up in St. Paul in Rice Street neighborhood. Served our country in the Air Force as a radiological physicist and scientist. Worked at Honeywell, Litton, Sperry Univac, Nortronics. Named on several patents. Founded Applied Design Co., Data Recording Technology, and Precision Coatings, Inc. which is still operating in St. Paul. Matt was a brilliant, accomplished and patient man with love, compassion, and tolerance in his heart. With a twinkle in his eye, he grabbed every ounce of gusto from life and maintained a persistent, positive, forward-looking attitude on his journey in life. He was a dedicated family man and exemplary father. He endured the passing of his first wife early in life to pursue 2 additional long and loving marriages. He could fix or build just about anything. Loved touring the US in motor homes and traveled to Europe on business and pleasure. He especially cherished trips to visit his cousins in Apetlon, Austria where his father was born. He enjoyed aviation and aircraft including a sport light plane he flew into his 80's. Former member of the Knights of Columbus and Past Grand Knight. Preceded in death by wife, Elaine; wife, Mary Lou; wife, Hope Hutt; sons, Martin John and Dennis; great-grandson, Vincent Babudro. Survived by children, Donald (Julie), Debbie (wife of Dennis), Sharon, Diane (Tim Compton d.), Jeffery (Fannella), James, Patti, and Linda (Randy Lamb). Stepchildren, from Mary Lou: Kathy Aronson (Larry), David Pleasants, Donna Issac (Matt), Mike Pleasants (Sheila), Tom Pleasants (d.). Anne Reirdon (Jim) and Steve Pleasants (Caryn). Stepchildren from Hope Hutt: Mike Hutt (Sherri), Tim Hutt (Darla) and Cathy Hoefer (Ralph). 9 grandchildren, 11great grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild. Many other step-grandchildren and great step-grandchildren. Visitation Sunday, July 1st from 2-6 PM with a 5:00 PM Eulogy and time for sharing Words of Remembrance-open to all. Feel free to prepare a written memory to be posted on a display board, at HOLCOMB-HENRY-BOOM-PURCELL FUNERAL HOME; 515 W. Hwy 96 at Mackubin, Shoreview. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, July 2nd at 11:00 AM (visitation one hour prior) at ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CATHOLIC CHURCH; 835 - 2nd Avenue NW, New Brighton with a luncheon to follow. Burial is at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Tuesday, July 3rd at 10:15 AM (Assembly Lane #5)
