Mary Jude Swenson

Mary Jude (Pregler) Swenson, 79, of Coon Rapids, MN, passed away peacefully next to her husband on September 6, 2025. Mary was born September 20,1945, in Dubuque, IA to Robert and Elizabeth (Roth) Pregler. She graduated from the Academy of the Visitation in Dubuque, IA in 1963 and went on to earn her RN degree from the College of St. Theresa in Winona, MN. Mary's fondness for newborns lead her to play an integral role in the set-up of St. Mary's (Mayo Clinic) neonatal unit, serving as the head nurse and providing care to the most vulnerable. She worked as a nurse in pediatrics and public health for several years. Mary married Daniel Swenson on October 21,1972 at Nativity Church in Dubuque, IA. He stood lovingly by her side for over 52 years. After giving birth to her son Andrew, Mary left her nursing career to be a stay-at-home mom. She went on to have a daughter, Kathryn (Katie) and dedicated many years of her life to raising her children and being active in their church, school, and 4-H activities. As her children left the nest, Mary worked countless hours over the course of two decades as a volunteer and later Director of Birthright's Coon Rapids chapter. She put her heart into serving others and standing for what she believed in - that every baby has the right to be born. Her steadfast dedication and loving spirit left a lasting impact on countless lives. A die-hard Minnesota Twins fan, Mary was a crafty, clever, and compassionate woman who will be missed dearly by her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Elizabeth Pregler. Surviving are her husband, Daniel, of Coon Rapids, Son Andrew (Melanie) of Heartland, WI; Daughter Katie of Maplewood, MN.; Two grandchildren, Ben and Christian.; Two siblings, Gary Pregler (Arlene Meland) and Susan (Joe) Heritage.; Many nieces, nephews, and close friends. Services will be held at Washburn McReavy funeral chapel in Coon Rapids on September 20, 2025. Visitation begins at 9:30 AM, service at 10:30 AM. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque, IA where there will be an additional celebration of life with date to be determined. Mary's family wants to thank the wonderful staffs of St. Croix Hospice and Autumn Glen Senior living for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Birthright of Coon Rapids.
