Mary Kathryn Schleicher

Mary Kathryn Schleicher, age 54 of East Bethel, passed away 8/1/2016. Survived by husband of 23 years, Michael; parents, Michael and Kathleen Mueller; sisters Ann (Dale) Carlson, Jolene (Ron) Haala; nieces Sarah, Jessi, Rachel, and Danielle; nephews Cory and Ryan; and other family and friends. Memorial visitation will be held Sunday, August 7th, from 5:00--8:00 PM at Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel, 1827 Coon Rapids Blvd, and Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, August 8th, at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior at St. Patrick's Church of Cedar Creek, 19921 Nightingale St NW, Oak Grove. Mary brought grace to all aspects of her life. She was the middle daughter, waking up every morning with a smile (and maybe a little mischief) to see what each day would bring. She was the center of the “Mueller Girl” trio. Sister, friend, confidant, co-conspirator, hero. As an Aunt, Mary had a special bond with each niece and nephew, celebrating each person’s gifts and talents. She was there for them at the special milestones and also for the everyday “play dates”. Married for 23 years, Mary lived her vocation of marriage every day with love, commitment, support, and friendship. She and Mike had their share of “for better or for worse”; “in sickness and in health”; but lived especially “I will love and honor you all the days of my life”. Mary understood and practiced friendship in the truest sense of the word. She was never too busy and she didn’t let distance be an obstacle. Whether you lived in the same city or across the country, Mary valued each person and made time to stay connected. Mary was a talented cellist. She was inspired when the St. Paul Chamber String Quartet did a demonstration at a school assembly. Since her school did not have an orchestra program Mary began her study at age 8 by taking private cello lessons. At age 10 she joined the Greater Twin Cities Youth Orchestra and played in that group until she graduated with a four year scholarship to the University of Southern Mississippi, where she earned a degree in music performance. She was a member of many performance groups both large and small ranging from solo to symphony orchestras. Mary loved to share her music. She found that she was called to be a teacher. So she earned her degree from Augsburg and then a master’s from St Mary’s. She taught at the elementary level for 25 years. She taught at several schools, retiring from Rice Lake Elementary. Mary was enthusiastic in sharing her love of learning with all the children she taught and worked tirelessly to help each one succeed according to their individual abilities. Mary’s faith was her foundation. She gave glory to God for all the blessings in her life. She turned to Him for guidance and strength during the tough times. We’re thankful for the gift of Mary.
