Mary Jo Richardson

Richardson, Mary Jo Age 90 of Shoreview Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mary Jo died peacefully on March 7th, 2021. Mary Jo (Ryan) Richardson was married to Joseph Richardson for sixty wonderful years. He died Sept. 6, 2013. They lived near Turtle Lake in Shoreview for thirty years. She is survived by three children, James (spouse, Drew), Frances Kozlowski and Michael Richardson; three grandchildren, Kylie, Libbie and Jackie; three great grandchildren, Javier, Thalia and Cooper; siblings, Frances Butler (Larry) and John Ryan (Marion); nieces, Mary, Kathleen and Maureen, and many other beloved relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nina and Frank Ryan; brothers-in-law, William and Donald Richardson. Mary Jo was a graduate of St. Joseph's Academy, class of 1948. After graduating from the College of St. Catherine, she went on to teach history and social studies at St. Joseph's Academy. After semi-retirement, she taught at Hamline University. Working for non-profit organizations was her passion. Some of the agencies she worked for were: MACLD (Minnesota Association for Children with Learning Disabilities) and Minnesota Department of Economic Security. Mary Jo was one of the founders of the Minnesota AmeriCorps program, where she was a director. Mary Jo completed her M.A. in 1989, and Doctorate of Education from St. Thomas University, in 1999, while she was working full-time for the State of Minnesota. She was an avid outdoors person who liked hiking, camping, canoeing, golfing and other sports. She had an extraordinary love and compassion for her family, friends and community. She will be greatly missed by everyone she touched during her life. A service will be held at St. Odilia's Catholic Church in Shoreview for immediate family members on March 15th, 2021. Private interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials would be appreciated for the Sisters of St. Joseph Ministries Foundation or donor's choice.
