Mary Ellen Boynton

Mary Ellen was born on December 6, 1952 in Blair, Nebraska, daughter of Alden and Bernice Snowbeck. After high school graduation, she attended and graduated from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Upon graduation, she taught school in Gordon, Nebraska and Luverne, Minnesota before moving to St. Paul, MN where she was a Production and Inventory Analyst at the 3M Company. In 1979 she met her future husband, John and they were married in 1980. She continued with 3M until the birth of their daughter, Blair, in 1983. They lived in the Tanglewood community of Shoreview until 2021. They enjoyed this area with its great parks and trails along with a group of great neighbors. Mary Ellen and John have been long-time members of nearby Incarnation Lutheran Church. In 2021 Mary Ellen and John sold their Shoreview home and joined the cooperative living at Applewood Pointe of Roseville at Central Park with wonderful neighbors for support. After daughter, Blair, began attending school, Mary Ellen returned to teaching at Chippewa Middle School, North Oaks, for sixteen years as a Business/Computer teacher, retiring in 2006. She enjoyed and felt great accomplishment with her students and believed that her sense of humor was one of her gifts to them. After retirement, Mary Ellen kept busy with various activities. She assisted her friend, Nettie, who founded a non-profit association which does various fund-raising activities to assist children in a St. Paul public school. Mary Ellen was also an active member of quilt groups that meet in North St. Paul and Siren, WI. Mary Ellen and John along with Blair experienced many wonderful summers at their Bone Lake cabin located near Luck, Wisconsin. Mary Ellen and John along with Blair took trips to many locations and, thereafter, Mary Ellen and John spent time visiting quilt shops located throughout the county. Mary Ellen often traveled with friends to quilt stores located in Minnesota and Wisconsin, becoming friends with even more quilters from around the United States. Mary Ellen is survived by husband, John of 42 years and daughter, Blair of Waterloo, Iowa along with sister-in-law Judy; niece, Ann Snowbeck (Leon), nephew Christopher Snowbeck (Diane) with great-nieces, Elsa and Audrey and nephew Erik Snowbeck, (Rene). Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, brother, David and sister-in-law, Martha Boynton. In her passing she was surrounded by family and friends and in thought by many relatives and friends. Mary Ellen breezed through life with a giggle, a sarcastic wit (always with a little smile) and a "get it done attitude". She enjoyed puzzles, quilting, knitting, antiques, garage sales and thrift stores. To sum it up, she would say, "I'm not bossy, I just have better ideas." Any donations would be suggested to be given to assisting St. Paul Public School children at Maxfield Elementary through Nettie and Friends, 174 Galtier Place, Shoreview, MN 55126.
