Zaworski, Martin Leo April 9, 2025, marked the day Northeast Minneapolis lost a true original and heaven gained "Marty the Meat Man." Marty Zaworski, aged 69, of Rush City and formerly of NE Mpls, made his grand exit surrounded by his adoring family. Marty was the ultimate family man and jokester extraordinaire, survived by his beloved wife Heidi, who stood faithfully by his side through life's journey, and miraculously put up with his antics for decades. His proudest accomplishments? Raising a whopping 32 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild (yes, you read that right), with the help of a small village of beloved children: Jennifer Mendoza, Mindy Myers, Dustin (Debra) Hoffman, Ryan (Sadie) Hoffman, Emily (Aaron) Lowry, Molly (Nick) Stachowski, and Laura Zaworski. In addition, special daughters Brenda (Marty) Johnson and Brenna (Miguel) Kittleson, along with honorary son Tony, and you've got the ultimate family guy. Marty grew up in Northeast Minneapolis, a proud Polish Nordeaster and the quintessential middle child equal parts peacemaker and pot-stirrer. Marty is survived by his brothers Frank (Linda) Zaworski and Jeff Zaworski; sisters Polly (Garry) Hanson, Nancy Zaworski, and Becky Germundson; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends. He graduated from Edison High School in 1974, where he likely laid the foundation for his love of all things sports and rock music, not to mention epic nicknames, including "Zaz," "Uncle Tony," "Marty the Meat Man," and "Marty the Bingo Guy" - known for being the most hilarious Bingo caller this side of eternity. During his 43-year stint at Cub Foods, Marty became a local legend, dishing out meats and banter with equal enthusiasm. But his heart belonged to the NE Lions Club, where he dedicated himself to serving his community with the same gusto that made him a neighborhood treasure. Marty's life was filled to the brim with humor, kindness, and unapologetic Northeast pride. He loved deeply, lived fully, and laughed loudly - and oh, did he know how to make an unforgettable impression. Heaven just got a little noisier, a lot funnier, and immeasurably better with Marty joining the roster. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and JoAnne, his sister MaryJo Andrusko, and brothers-in-law Jerry Andrusko and Bob Germundson who welcomed him with open arms and and for sure a game of Bingo! Visitation will be held on Monday, April 14th, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Washburn McReavy Hillside Chapel, 2610 19th Ave NE, Minneapolis. A celebration of life including sharing of memories, food, and good company will take place on Tuesday, April 15th at Ukrainian Event Center, 301 NE Main St, Mpls. Beginning at 1:00 pm, with the memorial service starting at 1:30 pm and concluding at 4:00 pm. Interment will take place at a later date. Memorials are preferred.
