Marlene Marie Lauer

Marlene M Lauer, Age 71, of Shoreview, MN joined her sisters, Linda and Karen and parents, Justin and Ruth in heaven on October 11th, 2023. Marlene is remembered as a loving, warm, and gentle spirit who was devoted to her faith, her family, and her Spanish speaking community. She was born January 2nd, 1952, in Mitchell, South Dakota. She grew up on a farm near Howard, SD until moving to Rapid City, SD in November 1956. She attended St. John the Evangelist Grade School and graduated May 1966. She attended St. Martin High School and graduated May 1970. While attending St. Martin's High School, she spent her Junior year as an international student in Cali, Columbia, South America (September 1968 to May 1969), played girls basketball, and was crowned May Queen during her senior year. Marlene graduated from the College of St. Teresa, Winona, Minnesota May 1974 with a degree in Latin American Studies. While at St. Teresa, Marlene spent the fall semester of her junior year in a study abroad program in Mexico. She was married in November 1975 and had four children; Erica, Jessica, Justin, & Leana. After raising her children, she began to work for the Roseville school district in several roles but ultimately followed her dream to serve her Spanish-speaking families as a cultural liaison and interpreter. Her advocacy for, and devotion to her families made her an integral and well-loved part of the community. Marlene's passion for traveling and experiencing different cultures took her on many adventures around the world including Mexico, Columbia, the Holy Lands, and France. Marlene was a deeply spiritual catholic who was continually growing in her faith. In May of 2013, she completed the Saint Paul Seminary School certificate program "Pillars: A Journey Through the Catechism." She is survived by her two brothers, Gerry and Tom, her four children and four grandchildren. Visitation Monday Oct. 23 from 4-7 PM at Holcomb-Henry-Boom-Purcell Funeral Home, 515 Hwy 96 W., Shoreview. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Tuesday, Oct. 24th (visitation 10-11AM) at St. Odilia Catholic Church, 3495 N. Victoria St., Shoreview.
