Marjory "Marj" Maier

Maier, Marjory (Marj) Entered her heavenly home on August 13, 2015, after about six years of fighting cancer. She was born on January 30, 1933 in Lead, South Dakota, to Clifford and Lucille (Burbidge) Edwards. She grew up in the beautiful Black Hills with siblings: Bill, Arlene, Bob, and Dick. Their father was a pharmacist and owned two drug stores. Many happy years were spent climbing the hills and working at the stores. Marj graduated from Lead High School in 1950 and from the University of Dubuque cum laude in 1954. She received a Master of Social Work from McCormick Seminary (1956) and a Master of Library Science from the University of Minnesota (1972). She worked for Minneapolis Public Schools for twenty two years as a Media Specialist. Marj met John Maier when he was studying for the ministry at McCormick and married him May 6, 1956. They had three children, Steven, Karen and Mark. The family lived in Kansas, Illinois and finally in St. Louis Park, Minnesota for over forty-seven years. Marj was a member of Peace Presbyterian Church, in St Louis Park, where she served as a teacher, an elder and a deacon and sang in the choir. They went on many work camps and choir tours overseas. The family also travelled to all fifty states and many other countries. She was a member of the St. Louis Park Woman's Club and a volunteer at Methodist Hospital. Marj was preceded in death by her parents: Clifford and Lucille Edwards; brothers: Bill, Bob and Dick Edwards; daughter: Karen Maier; and grandson: Jason Maier. She is survived by her devoted husband: John Maier; sons: Mark Maier and Steve Maier (Judy); grandchildren: Christiana Kapsner (Kris), Adrian Kearns (Stephanie), Tonya Menard (Dan) and five great grandchildren; sister: Arlene Johnson; cousin: Gwen Cloninger (Ron); and many nieces, nephews, relatives and wonderful friends. A memorial service will be held at Peace Presbyterian Church, 7624 Cedar Lake Road, St. Louis Park, MN 55426, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2015, with a visitation one hour prior to the service and luncheon following the service.
