Marilyn Rose Sanchez

Sanchez, Marilyn R. (nee Clark) Of Edina and Golden Valley, MN died January 18, 2024. She was born March 23, 1930 in Charleston, IL and graduated as valedictorian at East Illinois State High School; BA, University of NW (MN); M.Ed., Macalester College; PhD work, Adult Education U of MN. She married John A. Sanchez of Barcelona, Spain on 8/14/1954. Marilyn taught English at N.W., English and Speech at Edina High School and Supervised debate. Assistant Director, McConnell Airline School, Minneapolis. She and her husband worked with agricultural migrants. Later she tutored immigrants at the YWCA and privately. She worked at EMC Corp., St. Paul in Audio Visual Education. Before retiring, she spent 20 years as an adult probation officer in Hennepin County Corrections, having twice being selected as "Outstanding Probation Officer". There she also supervised volunteers and international probation officers and was licensed as an independent clinical social worker. Since teen years, Marilyn participated in and led church groups, church school, and did mission work with migrants and also in the Canary Islands, Spain. She was a long time member of Edina Covenant Church, and twice chairperson of the congregation. She loved teaching, learning, music, history, and gardening. With her husband, she mentored and counseled young people. She traveled extensively in the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe, the Middle East, Russia, and New Zealand. She is preceded in death by husband John and parents Vivian (nee Lippincott) and Dennie Reason Clark of Charleston, IL; sister, Ramona (Clark) Stevens of Reno, NV; brother, Darrell Clark of Mackinaw, IL. She is survived by her brother, Dennie Rex Clark of Cape Coral, FL; many nieces, nephews, friends. A visitation/reviewal will be held at Hillside Chapel, 10:30AM, Thursday, Feb. 1, 2600 19th Ave NE, Mpls. Followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery at 11AM. A memorial service will be held 2PM Thursday, Feb. 1 with visitation beginning at 1pm at Covenant Living of Golden Valley, 5800 St Croix Ave., Golden Valley with reception to follow.
