Marilyn June Krick

Marilyn June Krick (nee Bates), born June 24, 1938 passed away on May 29, 2021 following a brief battle with stomach cancer. She was born and raised on a family farm near Norcross, MN with few modern amenities. She attended a one room schoolhouse and graduated from Elbow Lake High School. After graduation, she moved to Minneapolis where she met her husband, Arthur. They made their home in South Mpls where they would both live the rest of their lives. They were both active members of St. Kevin's Church. St. Kevin was a fairly newly established parish and their involvement taught their kids the value of "getting involved". Marilyn worked for the US Customs Service for over 20 years, making many dear friends. Marilyn was a generous person with a huge heart. She was an avid card sender and had a passion for letter writing. She rarely forgot a birthday. Hallmark and the USPS will miss Marilyn; she was one of their best customers! She was a long-time member of the Fleet Reserve Association and spent much of her retirement time volunteering at the VA Hospital and helping with funeral lunches at Our Lady of Peace Church. She enjoyed traveling and, using their airline privileges, traveled the world with Art. She liked Elvis and she was a game show addict who was especially fond of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. It was amazing how quickly she could solve a puzzle or answer a question, even towards the last days of her life. She was a wonderful cook and hostess, and whenever you were invited to her home you knew you would be served a delicious meal. Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years Arthur, parents George and Lillian Bates and brother Ken Bates. She is survived by, and will be deeply missed, by her children Steve (Deb), Tony, Mickey Willard (Mike), her grandchildren Mitch, Sam, Jessie (fiancé Javi) and Jenny Neff (Dan), her great-granddaughter Freya Willard and brother Marv Bates (Mary). Mass of Chirstian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 5426 12th Ave S, Mpls on Monday June 7 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation prior to Mass beginning at 9:30 a.m. A celebration of a life well lived will follow Mass with interment to follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Marilyn's name to Our Lady of Peace Catholic School preferred. The family would like to thank the Allina hospice team for the excellent and compassionate care that Marilyn received. As the question would be posed on Jeopardy: "she found peace and eternal life on May 29, 2021". Answer: who is Marilyn?
