Marilyn Knutson

Marilyn Abella Knutson, age 66, passed away at her home in Cape Coral, FL, on October 15, 2024, after a courageous 5-year battle with lung cancer. Her passing, which occurred on her birthday, marks the end of a life filled with love, faith, and devotion to her family and community. Marilyn was born on October 15, 1958, in Cebu, Philippines, the seventh of ten children to Epifanio and Asunsion Abella. From a young age, she was known for her intelligence, faith, and deep love for her family. She earned an associate degree from the University of Cebu and went on to work in an insurance secretarial role at Philam Life before dedicating her life to being a full-time mother and homemaker. In 1991, Marilyn married the love of her life, Richard Knutson, in her hometown of Cebu. Together, they built a beautiful life, first in Eagan, MN, and later in Cape Coral, FL. Marilyn was a devoted wife, mother, and friend, always putting her family first and creating a home filled with home-cooked meals, warmth, and love. She was always there when needed most. A devout Catholic, Marilyn was deeply involved in her church, Mary, Mother of the Church and later St. Andrew's Catholic Church. She prayed the rosary and Divine Mercy daily and was an active member of multiple church groups, Bible studies, and the Couples for Christ Family Ministry. She sang in the church choir and found joy in serving her community. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, giving her strength and comfort, especially during her illness. Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Richard Knutson; her son, Albert Knutson; her daughter, Mary Knutson; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, kind heart, and selfless spirit. Marilyn touched the lives of many, and her joy, strength, and grace will never be forgotten. Visitation will be held at Fuller Metz Funeral Home in Cape Coral, FL, on October 21, 2024, at 4:00 PM, with a prayer service to follow at 5:30 PM. Additional visitation will take place at Mary, Mother of the Church in Burnsville, MN, on October 26, 2024, at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow the service, with a burial at Roselawn Cemetery in Roseville, MN. Memorial Donations may be made to a cancer research organization or a Catholic charity in Marilyn's memory.
