Marilyn Lee Jennings-Scalze

Marilyn Jennings Scalze passed into eternal rest on January 5, 2026, at the age of 92. Marilyn was born in Lawton, Montana, to Dora Brown and George Foreman. In her youth, she returned to Minnesota, where she would spend most of her life. While living in Minneapolis, she met Paul Jennings, and they were married in 1954. Together they had four children: Jeffrey Jennings, Cynthia Wright, Lynn Levinger, and Martin Jennings. Though their marriage later ended, Marilyn remained deeply devoted to her children throughout her life. Marilyn later met Michael Scalze, and the two married and shared a loving life together until Michael's passing in 2003. Their partnership was one of mutual support, hard work, and companionship. Over the course of her life, Marilyn lived in many locations, primarily throughout the state of Minnesota. Her nomadic upbringing may have sparked her lifelong love of travel-one of her greatest joys. She is fondly remembered for taking long drives with her grandchildren and for the countless friendships she formed, especially in her later years. Marilyn attended Normandale College, where she pursued business studies. She worked in a wide range of occupations, including roles in the food and beverage industry, manufacturing, state employment, collections, and sales and marketing within the hotel industry. Alongside her husband Michael, she also operated an advertising business, selling coupon and discount books to hotels and businesses. Marilyn was known for her strong work ethic, adaptability, and resourcefulness. For the final eleven years of her life, Marilyn resided at Lyngblomsten Apartments in St. Paul. There she built many close friendships with fellow residents and staff. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and especially enjoyed weekly social gatherings-most notably card games. Family and friends were the center of Marilyn's life. She is survived by her four children, twelve grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was a proud and loving grandmother and great-grandmother who found her greatest joy in the love of her family and the relationships she nurtured throughout her life. Marilyn's life was marked by perseverance, faith, and quiet determination. Having faced significant hardship early in life, she carried herself with resilience and grace. Her faith was a steady source of comfort and strength, and she trusted deeply in God's presence and guidance. Marilyn will be remembered for her contagious laughter, unwavering faith, enduring strength, and deep love for her family and friends. She now rests in eternal peace, reunited with loved ones who preceded her. A celebration of life will be held in late spring under the guidance of Washburn-McReavy Funeral Home of Minneapolis.
